The Great thing about independent &arthouse cinema's is the opportunity to visually experience cinematic masterpieces of generations gone by and thanks to BFI another classic movie comes to a screen near you.

Noomi Rapace in Family Drama Svinalängorna (Beyond)

No comments:

 source Quietearth
This weekend saw the UK/Irish release of The Girl Who Played With Fire was released and ever since the movies which all 3 have been made (The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest out in UK November 26th) Noomi Rapace has become one of the most wanted actress for her protryal of Lisbeth Salander. Its expected Rapace will soon take the step into Hollywood but before then there's still the matter of a movie on the homefront with Svinalängorna (Beyond).
The movie is set in the 1970's about a young womans experiences growning up in a household riddled with abuse and alcoholism, Rapace plays Leena who is now settled with her own family with her christmas shattered by the news of her mother is dying which rolls back the dark memories and first time visit to her mom in her adult life.
There's a great cast of Swedish actors (including Tehila Blad who plays a young Leena, she also played a young Lisbeth as well)  and despite the over dramatic trailer this is actually a very powerful drama which shows why Noomi Rapace is in demand by hollywood. The only shock is none of the big festivals have picked this up especially whose in it but Im sure it will be picked up some festival, however the movie is due to be released in Sweden on November 12th, trailer after the break...

tiff 2010: No Sonic Screwdriver’s here,Offical Trailer For WOMB

No comments:

 source ThePeoplesmovies
The Playlist have posted online the trailer for the Benedek Fliegauf‘s indie drama WOMB. The movie stars Eva Green, the new Doctor Who Matt Smith , Lesley Manville, Peter Wright and Hannah Murray.
Rebecca (Green) has waited 12 long years to be with her childhood sweetheart again but only to loose him to an accident but now she can bring him back from the dead. The movie isn’t about a woman who can practice voodoo but the controversial look at cloning  and in this case human cloning and the ethical issues the cloning is raised.
The movie has a  mostly British cast with an Germany/Hungary/France produced movie which has been well put together highlighting the acting abilities of the movies main characters, I’m not Matt Smith’s biggest fan on the Doctor who side of things but outside the tardisI actually dont mind him as a actor. The movie does have a gentle charm to it but you do get the sense underneath the dark undertones of the movies subject matter.
Womb has just got itself a US distributor Olive Films so do expect somelimited release of the movie as for UK or Ireland no word yet but the next time the movie will be on a big screen will be next months Toronto Film Festival.

TIFF 2010: Trailer For Barbara Wong's BREAK UP CLUB (Fun sau suet oi nei )

source QuietEarth
If it wasnt for the internet I wouldn't be here! Its a wonderful play you be educated with, entertained with but theres the darkside of the internet that makes you wish the thing was never invented. Barbara Wong shows us a way to abuse with her new movie THE BREAK UP CLUB.
The movie is about Joe a young guy who is devasted his girlfriend Flora has split up with him and Joe decides to join 'The Break up Club' to get over his heartache. By joining the club they say he'll be able to get back with Flora if he can break up another couple and his friend is who he braks up and Flora is back with him, then she breaks up again, comes back and off again. Its one hell of a emotional rollercoaster for Joe and whilst he does this he talks to a director (wong playing herself) about the club!
Despite the movie playing a little like a documentary it is actually a drama with some comedy and of course romance thrown in too! The movie was released in Hong Kong back in June so now its doing the rounds of the film festivals and the next port of call for the movie is Toronto in September, trailer after the break...

Have you just been dumped? What if there was a website that could get your loved one back? There is ! It is called BreakUpClub.asia. TIFF 2010: Promo Reel For Zhang Meng's THE PIANO IN A FACTORY

There's something of a charming feel about this movie despite been set in a backdrop of an steel works, I love the music too that gives the movie a real European edge even eastern european or even Juenet feel as the movies characters seem eccentric but also very likeable. Below after the break is a lengthy promo reel for Chinese filmmaker Zhang Meng's A PIANO IN A FACTORY.When you look at the setting of this movie it could really be anywhere as the world's industry is in decline and towns globally once thriving industrial centre are nothing more than a crumbling ghost town.

"It's the season to be Exorcised La la la laaa!"  Old Nick and his disciples are bit of hot property in movieland at the momment with next week's release (Sept 3rd) Daniel Stamm's Last Exorcism (out now in USA), also The Night Chronicles Devil coming our way too and now we have another contender with EXORCISMUS.
The movie comes from the briliant mind of Manuel Carballo  who brought us [REC] and so Spain has brought us the one person cam zombie genre who better to delve into the underbelly of the Devil? Despite been released by Filmmax this is Carballo's first delve into the English speaking movies and in USA this movie is called The Possession of Emma Evans but in 2011 when the movie is due to be released again another similar movie of Possession of David O'Reilly, so now the main name is Exorcismus.
Expect this movie to enter the festival network very soon in 2010 early 2011, check out the new trailer after the break..

Fifteen-year-old Emma Evans is like any other teenage girl; she thinks that her parents don't understand her. She longs for independence and a life free of family ties and responsibilities and she is prepared to do anything to achieve it. But one day she will be forced to face up to the consequences of her actions.

Life seems to be carrying on as normal, until one day Emma starts experiencing frightening fits. Her parents are convinced that her problems are either medical or psychological, but when doctors´ tests are unable to draw any conclusions, the family is forced to look elsewhere for answers.

It all started off as a bit of fun, Emma never really believed it, but the truth is there is something dark and sinister within her, and it won't take long to surface.

TIFF 2010:Trailer For Koen Mortier's 22ND OF MAY

No comments:
sourceTwitch
Koen Mortier made a name for himself with his debut movie EX-Drummer a movie about disabled guys creating a  rockband who hire a local writer to play drums and all there new drummer can do is manipulate them. The movie gots a massive cult following worldwide and rightly so and now the Belgium director is back with a more shattering  movie 22 MAI (may) which is due to have its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival.
The movie centre's arounda security guard called sam who is a guard at a small shopping mall that becomes a victim of a terrorist explosion, its a more somber affair than Mortier's previous movie and I really love the slow motion of the trailer as when life changing events happen they happen fast and reality doesn't sink in but if slow things down you start to get a feel of whats just happened! Check out the first trailer after the break...

... While everything around him is burning, Sam tries his best to help. He drags a woman outside against her will. She is screaming, struggling to get back inside to save her child. But Sam is already back on the scene, trying to rescue other victims, all of them just as helpless as he is. They are strewn over the floor, covered in blood, their clothes shredded to pieces, feeling utterly lost. As their cries turn into screams, Sam is overpowered by fear and panic. First there was the shock, then the realization of what happened. Without thinking, he starts to run, turning his back to the apocalyptic scene. He flees, running along the streets of a city that once felt as familiar as a friend, but now seems more like a dark monster ...

This is new movie from South Korea  about  the agency that  helps the clients but they move together working on secret missions. with their goal to work in the background and until now they've had 100% sucess until they meet Min-yeong.
He is mr unpredictable, got the qaulities but just bad at the dating but he has one lady in his sights Hee-joong, very loveable person  but when the agency sees Min-Yeong's profile panic stations trigger, can this be another sucessfull job for the agency?
It sound abosuletly crazy and if Hollywood attempted this movie it would just be so generic another Hitch probably, only the Asians can get away with making obsure movies sucessfully.

Trailer for Derek Kwok's FROZEN (Wai nei chung ching )

No comments:
Source FILMSMASH
First time I noticed the title of this movie I was expecting it was a Chinese remake of the Adam Green movie of the same which comes out in uk on October 1st, but this is completely different.
Derek Kwok's Frozen or Wai Nei Chung Ching is about a woman Cyronically frozen in 1989 to waken up 20 years later to find out her then newborn is older than her! We've seen many movies likes of Freaky Friday where kids swap bodies with children, but I cant recall a movie like this where the kid is now older than the parent though has been the odd time travelling classic movie such as Back To The Future where Marty meets his mum.
The movie does sound very interesting and does have the charm you expect from a chinese/hong kong movie intwined with some fantasy, I didnt expect to see those big hairstyles again (I was 14 in 1989 remember them well!!!)
Frozen is out in Hong Kong on September 2nd, trailer after the break....

This movie is soon to make its international premiere at the San Sebastian Film Festival CHRZEST (The Christening) by Marcin Wrona.
Due to the artish style to this movie will make sure this movie will pick up a few accolades along the road when it does its rounds of the film festivals and I agree with this source of this trailer it does have a mixture of the movies Brothers mixed with History of violence. The whole movie looks to have click well together the cinematography, the intergation of the scenes into action into drama, so if your looking for a slighty different spin on the crime thriller movie, this could be the one to check out.

Michal has what he always dreamed of: a beautiful wife named Magda, a newborn son, his own firm. He chooses an old friend, Janek, to be the godfather of his child. Micahel Madsen is a Wall Street Trader in KRACH

No comments:
source QuietEarth
There was a time when Michael Madsen would pop up virtually every big hollywood movie on the planet then suddenly he would dissappear of the face of the earth. Then a cult type movie would come out there he is again then vavoom, no where to be seen until now is in a French movie by Fabrice Genestal, KRACH.
With the world's economy in such a bad state it would be only a matter of time old school Wall Street trading movies from 1980's would be back on our screens, okay we Know Wall Street 2 by Olivier Stone is heading our way in October but the French look likely to beat him with this movie with Gilles Lellouche a Wall Street trader fired by his boss (Madsen) for loosing $millions and he decides to against Madsen.
Will this be any good? hard to tell maybe in Native France but as outside French speaking world probably not though Madsen does look like a real badass in this! Trailer after the break...

Low Budget Killer in Norway's DARK SOULS

No comments:
source Twitch
Online, in magazines we get to see what mainstream movies have to offer or at least think they have to offer, one thing at my blog I like to cover trailers for movies from many continents & countires including Scandinavia. I do my best to try cover all levels of film making but I will say alot of low budget flicks dont seem to get alot of airtime and Scandinavians do have there fare share of low budget movies including this one DARK SOULS( Mørke sjeler).
Alot of low budget movies get made of all genres and they get dished out ten a penny majority just plain crap unwatchable but there's always the odd one that stands out worthy of mention and  Mathieu Peteul and César Ducasse's Dark Souls is one of them.
The movie is doing the tour of the film festivals worldwide picking up a few awards on its tour and from the trailer below you can see the movie is very gritty and is not scared of throwning in a bit of brutality. Black and Decker should get this as a promo ad for their drills as there plenty on view but are the victims are they zombies? I dont think so a little bit like the critters from that dodgy 1980's flick with Patrik Stewart Lifeforce crossed with the affect from 28 Days Later, mmm? Trailer after the break...

It was the name of this movie intrigued me SATURDAY KILLER and how Sippapak's doing back to back sequels (i:e Monday,Tuesday,Wednesday,etc....) matching comedians with beautiful young starlets. Each movie had a slight variation and oddly the movies werent released in order of the days there killer was based on either?!
As i what the actual story is all about, your guess is good as mines, I wonder if this is a funnier version of Smokin' Aces?

2 New Clips From Sylvian Chomet's THE ILLUSIONIST

No comments:

Tomorrow in UK & Ireland sees the release of Sylvain Chomet’s The Illusionist a beautifully drawn animation set inEdinburgh and various beautiful spots around Scotland. The story centre’s around a old style stage magican in the 1950′s whose one of a dying breed of entertainers with the emergance of rock stars stealing his thunder and life is now work coming in the most obscure places. As things seem to be getting bad there’s one little girl, Alice who changes his life forever.

This movie will delight children and adults who love the tradition 2d form of animation which is completely different from the norm of the Walt Disney style but still has that enchanting element from the old disney flick. This is a qaulity film from a qaulity animator in the form of Slyvain Chomet who won 2 oscars in 2003 with his previous movie Belleville Rendez-Vous, so if you enjoyed that animation you’ll love this and if you love the legendary Jacques Tati (whose story this is based on) you really enjoy this.

The movie is on national release in UK & Ireland from tomorrow and Christmas day (25th December) in USA. Check out these two clips from the movie one called ‘Lady Singer’ showning the illusionist trying to win over the crowd and the second called Exercise showning our movies protaganist trying to get himself into a exercise regime!  Clips after the break...

With the poser of the internet I have been able to watch some of the classic anime's online as I am a massive fan of old school retro Japanese animation. Dont get me wrong I do love current anime but there just an essence piece of magic connected with classic animation that you just cant put words to but you know you love it.
The story focuses on the story of Joe Yabuki a troubled young man and he meets Dampei Tange who teaches Joe the art of boxing. During a stint in prison Joe meets a boxing prodigy Toru Rikiishi whom a respectful but fierce rivalary develops and their battles inspire other inmates to take up boxing resulting in various battles  of whom are all of different skill levels and weakness.
The movie stars Tomohisa Yamashita (joe), Teruyuki Kagawa (Dampei) and Yûsuke Iseya (Toru) with Toho releasing the movie in Japan and the movie set to be released in Japan in Febraury 2011.

LOST PAGE (Página Perdida)- Trailer for trip inspired Brazillan flick

No comments:

Got this trailer sent to me a few days ago from Sanglant Films, its for a movie from Brazil called Página Perdida or in English LOST PAGE which is surrounded by an intriguing scenario and inhabited by strange characters,  is an abstract film, the result of a powerfull visual dimension created by Lucas Moreira added to the experimental electro-acoustic music of Marcelo Armani.
I do love abstract music even made up several comps on cds of songs i was sent used to help me chill out and I know this will bring on a few WTF moments with some of you, but its something I used to see been made whilst I was studing graphic design in manchester, visually graphical originally unique.

Is Joaquin Phoenix really still here, check out the trailer for I'M STILL HERE and find out

No comments:
source THEPEOPLESMOVIES
So is he still here, yes he is but was he ever lost? good question as Magnolia Pictures release the Csey Affleck directed I’M STILL HERE the documentary on the ‘lost year’ of Joaquin Phoenix.
The question is this year really a documentary of a mockamentary as a sucessfull a-list actor at a cross roads of his life drops out of the movies to become a rap star under the management of P-Diddy aka sean Combs. Is this Phoenix giving the movie world the finger or is it a glorified arthouse film showning us the breakdown of a talented but troubled actor whose let himself goe mentally as well as pyshically?

I’m Still Here will shock you, rivet you, make you cringe as well as make you laugh, is there anyway back for Phoenix? The documentary will be released stateside September 10th, but no word if the movie will see the light of day in UK & Ireland but im sure if its successfull it will.

Trailer For Edward Burns Indie Comdey NICE GUY JOHNNY

No comments:
Source ThePlaylist
Ed Burns is one of those actors who just seems to pop out of knowhere in a movie then suddenly disappear, he seems to be that actor that people remember his face but cant remember his name then a few weeks later you say to yourself "Whatever happen to that actor xxx?" I'm one of those people did it on saturday after watching Saving Private Ryan on tv one thing I didnt realise he also directed, produced and writes too and below is the trailer for his new movie NICE GUY JOHNNY.
The movie focuses on Johnny (played by Matt Bush the guy who kept punching Jesse Eisenberg in the balls in Adventureland) who is on the verge of giving up his dream job in the attempt to please his fiancee and if he cant get that dream job as a radio talkshow host he'll head off to New York to a jo set up by his fiancee's father.Johnny's uncle terry (Burns) is annoyed and he attempts to save his nephew from a life of punching in and out for a living and he goes on an adventure and meets Brooke (Bishe)
Personally this movie and whole set up sounds very generic, more action in King of The Hill than this bland story and the actual trailer doesnt help much either is probably why this movie isn't getting a cinematic release just straight to VOD stateside on October 26th, trailer after the break...

Yes your eyes aren't deceiving you folks this post is for a Japanese remake of Ghost, that movie that starred Patrick Swayeze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg. So you may WTF! Well Paramount Picures a while back did an deal with the asian market for a few of there movies to be remade for asian market and you may why?! Ive heard that attitude by a few people before whilst many filmamker remake foreign based movies into English language (most are not very good) so whynot?
Gosuto: Mo Ichido Dakishimetai is a Japanese version of the classic weepie with Seung-heon Song & Nanako Matsushima reprising the roles the difference in this version is that the character who dies is reversed the female character(Matsushima)  Kirin Kiki will play the role which Goldberg played.

Trailer for John Woo's REIGN OF ASSASSINS

No comments:

Source Twitch
Since John Woo decided to move back into the Hong Kong/Chinese movie market I feel a sense of confidence, happiness, a man back on form. Woo'smovie seem to have moved back up to the top where they belong and he is a fine example that Hollywood isn't the dreammaker many filmakers & actors see Hollywood as. Its dogeatdog world and if you hack it on the first attempt and keep the momentum going dreams turn to knightmares.
Bought Red Cliff last week on DVD and if you give me anything set in China when chivlary is in order with John Woo behind the lens Im sold! Here is the first trailer for REIGN OF ASSISSANS which Woo co-directs and produce, proper old school here! The movie is currently in pos-tproduction but what we do know is that Weinstein Company have the American rights so we can expect a release in UK too! Yesss!!!

Movie stars Michelle Yeoh, Woo-sung Jung, Barbie Hsu, Kelly Lin and Shawn Yue, trailer after the break...

TIFF 2010: Trailer For Kat Dennings in DAYDREAM NATION

No comments:
sourceThePeoplesMovies
DAYDREAM NATION could be one of the movie you may want to check out if your heading to next month’s Toronto film festival where it’ll make its premiere. The movie is written & directed by Michael Goldblach starring Kat Dennings, Josh Lucas, Reece Thompson, Andie MacDowell and Natasha Calis.

The movie is about a teenage girl (Dennings) moves to a rural town (currently been plagued by a serial killer) where she has an affair with a teacher (Lucas).I dont if the killer is just a spin off/ background story or the affair will get entangled into the killers path who knows interesting twist.

Apart from the movie going to be at TIFF 2010 there is no word yet as and when this flick will be released apart from it been 2011. I wonder if this will be one of those flicks that does the rounds of the festival, you then completely forget about and bang it appears a year or two later, mm? trailer after break...

TIFF 2010: Trailer For THAT GIRL IN YELLOW BOOTS

No comments:
source QuietEarth
Below is the trailer for Anurag Kashyap’s latestmovie THAT GIRL IN YELLOW BOOTS.Im sure many non-indian movies fans when you think of India you'll automatically think this is a Bollywood movie and will be full of big majestic song & dance number, think again.
This movie is an thriller about a young girl who searches  for her father but then finds herself working in a massage parlour. This is not your average Indian movie and Kashyap is not scared to delve into controversy with diving deep into the dark underbelly of Indian society and I'm sure this will have a few of India's version's of Mary Whitehouse standing on their high moral grounds wanting this movie scrapped.
Well if there is a ruckus in Indian media the international media are more curious that movie is to play this years Toronto Film Festival and Venice Film festival too!
The trailer is a slow burner but then picks up some momentum, trailer after the break....
