Film Composer John Barry Has Died




Oscar Winning Composer John Barry has died in New York at the age of 77.
Barry will be best known as the composer of 11 James Bond movies including the very first every Bond movie Dr.No there was also Goldfinger , Only Live Twice making his music some of the most iconic sounds of cinematic history. Outside of James Bond Franchise Born Free, Out Of Africa, Dances With Wolves and Midnight Cowboy all themselves classic movies.
John Barry work saw him win 5 Oscars along with a BAFTA fellowship in 2005 and was honoured in 1999 with an OBE for services to music.
In recent times he composed the music for  2001 wartime drama Enigma (Dougray Scott, Kate Winslett) with a musical version of the Graham Greene classic novel Brighton Rock in 2004 with Lyricist Don Black. Outside of Movies and musicals he did work on television shows such as The Persuaders, Juke Box Jury and in 1998 he did go back to music been introduced to a new generation of music fans when he worked on the Robbie Williams song Millenimum.
James Bond will be the franchise many people will remember the composer by and David Arnold the current composer had this to say about the great man:
“I am profoundly saddened by the news but profoundly thankful for everything he did for music and for me personally.”
Born John Barry Prendergast in York 1933, his introduction into music and films was through his classically piano trained mother and his father been an owner of several cinemas in and around Lancashire & Yorkshire. He lived in Oyster Bay area Long Island USA with his wife Laurie whom he had 4 children and 5 grandchildren, Mr Barry had been suffering for poor health for a long time, our sympathies go out to his wife and family.
