It's A coming of Age Tale For A Robot in Kike Maillo's EVA

Source TwitchFilm (poster source Opium)
Daniel Bruhl's name became even more well known after last years Inglorious Basterds, before then more known for German/ Spanish movies. In the Basterd's he played  the charming but pyschotic Frederik Zoller but now we see him in a different light in EVA.
In this movie he plays Alex a cybernetic engineer who is asked to work on a robotic child and though we may not be used to seeing Bruhl in a part like this, this movie does look very good. You will see a little A.I resemblance with the robot child connection but overall this Spanish flick has a little more oompf than A.I as it looks evenly balanced from the actors, cgi even right down to the score, a good movie with a character story.
Read the synopsis and check out the trailer after the break...

The Year 2041.

Alex, a renowned cybernetic engineer returns to Santa Irene to carry out a very specific mission for the Robotic Faculty: the creation of a child robot. During the ten years he has been away from there, life has moved on for his brother David and for Lana, who after his departure, got her life back together.

By coincidence Alex's routine is altered in an unexpected way by Eva, who is Lana and David's amazing daughter. She is a very special, charismatic little girl. She and Alex have a special connection from the first time they meet.

They set out on a journey together, which will bring to them an revealing end.

EVA tells the story of a return, a reencounter and a loss.

I Had a really busy day working on The Peoples Movies blog and it was going on 1 am  so I decided not to post this but roll on a few hours we now have not just trailer one but trailer 2 for Jiabei Zhang's MIDNIGHT HEART/PULSE.

What's good and unique about this movie, it has a twist....its completely silent giving the whole movie a real errie feeling which is great as it's a horror! but roll on trailer two we have sound and its alot darker and twisted...better

Is this Hong Kong gone J-Horror? well slightly true as the production company have hired some japanese expertise. Don't know much on the movie apart from it's based in a hospital nd even the movies stars are not saying a word either which could suggest this is something bigger been created. It does have a few big names involved with Simon Yam and Frances Ng is it a major viral? Well whatever it is Midnight Heart is out in Hong Kong in September, trailers after the break....

Having a search through the mysterious world called the world wide web to bring you some goodies for you to enjoy and came across this little cracker of a movie short starring "I'm in everything British made " Noel Clarke.
The short movie is called REIGN OF DEATH and was created by Matthew Savage it's a CGI short movie similar in style as 300, Sin City. When you watch the trailer it's like a fallback to the old film noir mixed up with fritz lang inspired sci-fi...pulp science fiction! It's a simple story of  a 1930s vision of the future and gumshoe chases down a robotic murder suspect, the movie came out last year but cinehouse wasn't around when this came out, so enjoy!

Trailer For Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phamtom Flame Trailer

source Filmsmash

When I first spotted this trailer before I even looked at the link or what the movie was about it sounded like it was a scooby doo type movie and how wrong I was. The movies title ( Di Renjie - original name)  Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phamtom Flame is enough to attract any one to find out more!.
D-project (its short name) stars Andy Lau (Future X-Cops, The Warlords) and Bingbing Li (the forbidden Kindom) in a Action crime thriller  as well been set not in modern day but 690AD. As if said many times on this blog the Chinese/Hong Kong know how to create period movies is spectacular fashion and this one is big!
This time last year I was in Guangzhou, China and everywhere you went as well on TV Andy Lau was everywhere on Pepsi & Shampoo billboards, tv ads he is big money ! He is actully remaking What Woman Want the Mel Gibson movie it seems to be a deal that some of the hollywood  movies to be remade into asian movies (theres a japanese version of Ghost coming too), well think about it Hollywood is always looking at the foreign movie market for new movies usually destroying them, so why cant it be reversed? dont blame them
