Moonnazi Daydream Read Our IRON SKY Blu-Ray Review

★★★☆☆

Iron Sky as everyone knows is the moon Nazi flick. In 1945 the Nazis went to the moon, in 2018 they are coming back.
The story starts with 2 astronauts who are sent to the moon in an election year to make the president look good. One of them is black and he is only surviving one after the other is shot and killed after they discover the Nazis. He is soon taken captive and is eventually aryanized. It is revealed the Nazis have been planning to come back for some time. They have lacked the significant technology to do so however the astronaut’s phone holds the key they were looking for. The phone’s battery runs out so they have to go to Earth to get more technology.

I have very conflicted views on the film. Like many people I’ve been looking forward to it for a long time upwards of 3+ years. I was also excited when I found out the legendary industrial band Laibach was going to do the score who I’m a fan of. Laibach themselves been accused unfairly of being far right over the years. In reality everything they do has a wry sense of humour and they are firmly of the left.

The special effects are impressive especially for its modest budget of 7.5 million Euros. However at times they are a bit ropey and some more money would have certainly approved them. It’s not as laugh out funny as I hoping with them sometimes sticking to very broad humour which I find annoying a lot of the time. The acting is as campy as expected with Udo Kier as the Führer as the standout but Udo is always great. The film is a total satire on the current state of Politics in the world with a thinly disguised caricature of Sarah Palin (who herself is a caricature) as the US President and it deals with Oil and Americas’ relations with other countries.

In a way it’s a disappointment but it’s still very amusing at times. I totally respect Timo Vuorensola for doing the film and it’s certainly worth watching but I would just wish they got some more money and made it a little more darkly comedic and fixed the script up a bit. However it’s a good piece of b-movie fluff but sadly nothing more and that’s the point.

  1. it's a shame revolver made a total balls of the promotion/marketing this film, we know its not a perfect film but a fun no brainer and cinephiles like that silliness but it seems revolver didn't. Even when they did extend some of the cinemas still never screened the film despite advertised they were or made them very limited (1 scrreening a day usually late night and guess what it was full,
