GFF 2011: Watch Trailer For Oscar Nominated INCENDIES

If your going to have a international film festival why not do it in styleand show and Oscar nominated film? Glasgow Film Festival is doing that with the screening of Dennis Villenueve’s majestic film INCENDIES which will be screened as part of the festival World cinema strand “It’s A Wonderful World”.
Incendies is a poweful tale of family ties, duty, honour with inscapable links from the family’s past & present and following the death of there mother twins Jeanne & Simon discover they have a brother plus there father is not dead. Following the wishes of their mother Jeanne is compelled to take the sealed letter to find the two men in question by travelling to her Mother’s homeland to Lebanon where her families past open’s her up totheir extraordinary past. The twins are played by Melissa Desormeaux-Poulin & Maxim Gaudette and also stars Lubna Azabal, Remy Girard.
Since the movies debut at Telluride & Toronto Film Festivals in 2010 wherever the movie played there was nothing but high praise and when I read the festival brochure at the press launch I was very excited Ill be able to watch one of the top ten movies of last year in my home city. Thanks to Apple a American trailer has been released by Sony Picture Classics for its limited release in March Stateside (nothing yet on a British or Irish theatrical release) and going on Sony Picture Classic’s record on foreign Movie nominees in the Oscars we could be looking at this years winner, The Secret In Their Eyes anyone?
With the added bonus of that Nomination You can be sure this movie will sell out at the festival.

When notary Lebel (Remy Girard) sits down with Jeanne and Simon Marwan (Melissa Desormeaux Poulin, Maxim Gaudette) to read them their mother Nawal’s will (Lubna Azabal), the twins are stunned to receive a pair of envelopes – one for the father they thought was dead and another for a brother they didn’t know existed. In this enigmatic inheritance, Jeanne sees the key to Nawal’s retreat into unexplained silence during the final weeks of her life. She immediately decides to go to the Middle East to dig into a family history of which she knows next to nothing. Simon is unmoved by their mother’s posthumous mind games. However, the love he has for his sister is strong, and he soon joins her in combing their ancestral homeland in search of a Nawal who is very different from the mother they knew. With Lebel’s help, the twins piece together the story of the woman who brought them into the world, discovering a tragic fate as well as the courage of an exceptional woman. An adaptation of Wajdi Mouawad’s hit play, INCENDIES is a deeply moving story that brings the extremism and violence of today’s world to a starkly personal level, delivering a powerful and poetic testament to the uncanny power of the will to survive.
