I Come With The Rain is one of those films which takes you a while to make up your mind about, but stays with you long after you've watched it. It is challenging, intense, and ultimately rewarding. With some incredible cinematography and fantastic use of the geography surrounding the characters, especially cityscapes, director Tran Anh Hung employs the same techniques with which he so faithfully portrayed Vietnam in his previous films The Scent of Green Papaya and Cyclo, transposing them to the urban concrete jungle of Hong Kong.

The narrative starts out as a regular action thriller, but as the plot progresses and new elements are added to the story, it takes up a more ethereal, almost mythological quality. Josh Hartnett gives a harrowing performance as the private detective Kline, a man trying to find redemption after a very dark episode in his past which continues to haunt him. Boasting a soundtrack by Radiohead and a large international cast, I Come With The Rain is a fascinating study of the contrasts between East and West, good and evil, the beautiful and the grotesque.
