BLEAK NIGHT is the debut feature from Korean director Yoon Sung-hyun and tells the story of 3 boys all friends at a all boys school. Suddenly one of the schools students die and like any parent the student's father starts to investigate how it happened one of the three friends is a suspect, another is the victim with the third enraged that there friendship has been destroyed. But things take a strange turn when the dead student was actually the perpetrator and not the victim, but how could this be?
Bleak Night is in a way a coming of age story of teens understanding the meaning of pain throught others, its also a an attack on the Korean education system whom the director believe is the perpetrator of so much violence within his country's education system and that children are not really understanding the true meaning of life and that with good things there will always be bad things, surely some blame can be on the parents?
Bleak Night does look a very intense story and over the past 12 months it has done a run of the international film festivals picking up a few awards in the process including Rotterdam Film festival, the movie was also put forward for this years Oscars in the Foreign cinema category. The movie will be released in Korea on 3rd March.
