Loosing a child is probably the most devasting thing to happen to any parent but been parents to a child who commits suicide after a mass shooting at a school killing many of the students. Its a sensative heavy subject but sadly its happened too often in reality and Beautiful Boy follows that tragedy with an unique perspective focusing on the parents of the young man who had the killing spree before taking his life. No matter what you think a child is a child in the eyes of a parent no matter if victim or killer.
The movie played out at last years Toronto Film Festival and with Michael Sheen & Maria Bello playing the parents of the yong killer it looks positive mature step hopefully Shawn Ku the director does handles the story with great care not to offend.I’m sure the movie will get people talking but its good to see that a view of a tragic event can be seen from the parents of a killer and how there child’s actions effect their life, Im sure movies Like Beautiful Boy will have people debating for a while to come.
Bill and Kate hopelessly try to find some hint of an explanation after finding out that their only son committed a mass shooting at his university before taking his own life. They struggle numbly through the funeral, the media onslaught, and the awkward pity from relatives and friends. Their already strained marriage is tested as they realize all they have left with each other is their shared grief and confusion — and the unfortunate legacy of their son. This life-altering event forces Bill and Kate to face their feelings of guilt, rage, blame, self-discovery — and ultimately hope — so that they can finally see each other and their chance for happiness again with clear eyes.
