British Actors Set To Make It Big In Hollywood

Tom Hiddleston is one of those British actors who has been on everyone’s ‘One to Watch’ list over the past few years and has risen to blockbuster heights with a key role in Marvel’s Thor. To celebrate the May 9th DVD release of the critically acclaimed Archipelago, we take a look at the British actors that look set to make the leap to becoming Hollywood hot property.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tom Hardy
Having won the Orange Rising Star Award at this year’s BAFTAs, Tom Hardy has already built a strong reputation as one of Britain’s best young acting talents. With an impressive CV that already includes Marie Antoinette, Bronson and Inception, Tom Hardy has bagged the role of Bane in The Dark Knight Rises.

Andrew Garfield
Andrew Garfield has already made it in Hollywood, but is sure to become an even bigger star when he takes over the role of Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider Man. Garfield stepped it up a level with his role as Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin in The Social Network, but has also starred in Never Let Me Go, Boy A and Lions For Lambs.

Tom Sturridge
Tom Sturridge began acting as child, featuring in such films as FairyTale: A True Story, Vanity Fair and Being Julia. It was in 2009’s The Boat That Rocked that Sturridge first made a real name for himself playing the role of Young Carl alongside and all star cast that included Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Nighy and Nick Frost. Sturridge, who has become well known for being Robert Pattinson’s closest friend, is set to star in the upcoming Waiting For Forever and Junkhearts.

Nicholas Hoult
Nicholas Hoult has already undergone one major career re-invention – going from the strange little kid in About A Boy to the swaggering egotistical teenage heartthrob in the first series of E4’s Skins. It was always clear that Hoult would be the breakout star of the show, and after appearing alongside Colin Firth in A Single Man is now set to make his blockbuster debut in this summer’s X-Men: First Class.

Aaron Johnson
Despite having acted on television from the age of 6, it was with the one-two punch of Nowhere Boy and Kick-Ass that made Johnson a star, playing a young John Lennon and a wannabe-super hero respectively. However, he’s been getting column inches for other reasons, getting engaged to Nowhere boy director Sam Taylor-Wood, who 23 years his junior.

Oliver Jackson Cohen
Tipped by many as a huge star in the making, Oliver Jackson Cohen came to the fore as Phillip white in the TV series Lark Rise to Candleford. Jackson Cohen has already appeared in Hollywood movies Going The Distance and Faster and will be appearing in The Raven, a fictionalised story about the last few days of Edgar Allan Poe’s life ,which also stars Brendan Gleeson and John Cusack.

Henry Cavill
Having previously appeared in Hollywood fare such as The Count Of Monte Cristo and Stardust, Cavill really made a name for himself starring in the big budget Showtime historical TV series The Tudors. It’ll be next summer though when his career will truly take to the sky, as he plays the Man of Steel in Zack Synder’s Superman reboot.

Jamie Campbell Bower
Jamie Campbell Bower is no stranger to blockbuster movies, having featured alongside Jonny Depp in Sweeney Todd, but also featured in Twilight New Moon and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 and 2. Campbell Bower made the news after getting engaged to Harry Potter co-star Bonnie Wright in 2010 and will be gracing cinema screens once again as Caius in the upcoming Twilight: Breaking Dawn.

Robert Sheehan
Perhaps best known as Nathan, the entertaining but somewhat annoying protagonist in Misfits, Robert Sheehan has already starred alongside Nicolas Cage, Andrew Garfield and Rupert Grint. Sheehan recently appeared as rocker Ivan McCormick and this summer will be starring in urban slasher Suicide Kids.

Tom Hiddleston
It wasn’t until Joanna Hogg’s 2007 Unrelated that Hiddleston made the move from TV drama into feature films, playing the key male role of the arrogant Oakley. Following his acclaimed performance in Unrelated, Hiddleston starred in a number of cult TV shows including Wallander, alongside Kenneth Branagh. Branagh and Hiddleston were reunited for Marvel blockbuster Thor where Hiddleston plays Thor’s villainous brother Loki.
Hiddleston perhaps received his highest critical acclaim when he was reunited with director Joanna Hogg for Archipelago. Hiddleston plays Edward, a young man about to embark on a volunteer trip to Africa and whose mother gets the family together for a getaway on the Isles of Scilly where family tensions are brought to the surface.
