He is one of cinema's most celebrated contemporary filmmakers Pedro Almodovar and he return's in style at next week's Cannes Film Festival with his latest creation THE SKIN I LIVE IN(La Piel Que Habito). This is is the first for the Spanish auteur delving into the twisted world of horror thriller which has Antonio Banderas teaming up with the man who gave him his spotlight in a story of a plastic surgeon who carrys out a vendetta on the man who raped his daughter.
After watching filmmakers make a safe haven of themselves in certain movie genres it is refreshing to see a iconic director try his luck at something new, a true test of there ability but this is Almodovar you can say its a safe bet this will live up to the standards expected from the man, this will probably be in contention for Palm D'or too. What's also great to see is a movie which Antonio Banderas stars in that people actually may care about, the once world megastar has let himself go a bit with too many bad movies, so sometimes its great for a fallen star to go back to where it all started and kick off again and thats what Banderas has done.
The movie will play on Croisette in Cannes and 20th Century Fox/Pathe will be releasing this movie in UK&Ireland on August 26th, with Sony Picture Classics releasing it Stateside November. This will be a Oscar contender even if the movie ends up been a disaster.
THE SKIN I LIVE IN(La piel que habito) also stars Elena Anaya, Marisa Paredes, Bárbara Lennie, Blanca Suárez Fernando Cayo.
