He's been the stylish criminal (and will be once again) Doberman, a thorn in the side of Elizabeth I, a character in Shrek, infamous cat thief in Ocean's 12, The Devil, the notorious French gangster Jacques Mesrine and more recently a seducing Ballet Teacher in Black Swan and now he's becoming THE MONK. He is probably France's biggest import Vincent Cassel is wearing the brown religious cloth to play a monk which to many may not sound anything fantastic but this is the charismatic Cassel who can make the simplest of things look divine. THE MONK is based on the gothic novel written by Matthew G Lewis telling the tragic story of Brother Ambrosio in 17th century Catholic Spain.
You have to go away back to The Name of The Rose from 1987 starring Sean Connery and a young Christian Slater since we last saw a monastery slueth, but we're keen to see as its Vincent Cassel which stars in this one!

Adapted from Matthew G. Lewis' 1796 cult gothic novel, THE MONK follows the tragic destiny of Brother Ambrosio in 17th century Catholic Spain. Abandoned at birth at the gates of a Capuchin monastery, Ambrosio was raised by the friars. Today, he has grown into a preacher admired far and wide for his fervor. Feared, though, for his righteousness, he is believed to be immune from temptation. The arrival of a mysterious apprentice undermines his convictions, leading him onto the path of sin.
