When it comes to movies from Asia we dont get to see many independent movies mostly your mainstream movies so its nice to see something a little alternative and BIRTHRIGHT (Saitai) is one of those movies making some noise at the moment. Naoki Hashimoto's pyscho drama is doing the rounds of the international film festival circuit building up some momentum with great positive reviews everywhere it has played.
Birthright tells the story of an orphaned woman who hunts for her biological mother and finds her but she now has a new life, husband and family. The movie depicts a mother daughter relationship, its a deep slow movie which is heightened by the tension between the 2 women, very little dialogue back with some wonderful looking visuals.
No news if the movie will play in any UK & Irish film festivals, but the trailer is worth a look.
