Feature: The Best Models-Slash-Actors

The film and the fashion worlds have always been close – after all, they are both obsessed with the beautiful people. 8 July sees the release of The Princess of Montpensier, starring the face of Chanel and French style icon Gaspard Ulliel in a roaring period drama from acclaimed auteur Bernard Tavernier. The beautiful Mélanie Thierry stars as the titular princess who is forced into marriage while passionately in love with Ulliel.

Gapard looks set to capture hearts all over the world in the film, and to mark the film’s release we look the best models turned actors and actresses…

Gaspard Ulliel

One of the very few men to have the prestigious honour of appearing on the cover of French Vogue, Gaspard Ulliel is a familiar face in the fashion world, and last year became the face of Chanel, appearing in a promotional film for the campaign directed by Martin Scorsese. He’s also an accomplished actor, having appeared alongside Audrey Tautou in A Very Long Engagement and as a young Hannibal Lecter in Hannibal Rising. His latest screen role in period drama The Princess of Montensier sees him play the rogue who steals the heart of the beautiful princess Mélanie Thierry – who is unfortunately engaged to another man for political reasons, and their love threatens war…

Milla Jovovich

A legitimate supermodel, the Russian born Jovovich had already appeared on the cover of The Face, Vogue and Cosmopolitan before making her name in the movies. She periodically appeared in small screen roles, including a memorable role cult indie hit Dazed and Confused, but it was her role as the mysterious alien in Luc Besson’s The Fifth Element that proved to really be her breakthrough. Now, thanks to starring in action flicks like Ultraviolet and the Resident Evil films, she’s now just as well for kicking ass as being on the catwalk.

Lily Cole

With her striking facial features and flame red hair, Lily Cole was destined to become one of the most recognisable models in the world. She has had great success in the fashion world since being scouted at the age of 14 and has gone on to become the face of Rimmel London. She appeared in a cameo in 2007’s St Trinan’s and made her full screen debut in Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Her otherworldly looks have garnered her plenty of film offers but she has picked her roles wisely. She made a haunting appearance in Doctor Who earlier this year and is set to appear in the creepy adaptation of bestseller The Moth Diaries.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

A former Victoria’s Secrets model, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley made her namer in fashion by replacing Agyness Deyn in a Burberry campaign, in which she appeared alongside Brighton Rock star Sam Riley. However, she has now hit worldwide fame by replacing Megan Fox in Transformers 3, after the later was unceremoniously sacked from the fighting robot franchise. Is she just a pretty face or has she got a great screen career ahead of her?

Asthon Kutcher

Mr Demi Moore and the person to have a million followers on Twitter , was signed to the Next modelling agency in New York, leading to campaigns with campaigns for Calvin Klein and modelled in Paris and Milan. He then move to LA and bagged a role the sitcom That 70s Show. The show was a hit, running for almost a decade, which lead to film roles including Dude Where’s My Car? and The Butterfly Effect. He’s recently picked up a lucrative contract replacing Charlie Sheen on Two and A Half Men.

Olga Kurylenko

Ukraine-born Kurylenko was spotted by a scout whilst on holiday in Moscow when just 13, and by the age of 19 had appeared on the cover of both Vogue and Elle. In 2007 she was picked to the latest Bond girl in Daniel Craig’s second outing, Quantum of Solace. The fact that she was the first Bond girl from a former Soviet state caused controversy in some regions but the film was a worldwide success. Kurylenko has recently worked with recluse auteur Terrance Malick on his super-secret new project.

The Princess Of Montpensier will be released in UK on July 8th.
