TIFF 2011: Doppelgänger Paul Will Make you Feel Alienated, In Need Of Human Connection

I thing I really adore about this time of the year is working on some great film festivals with Venice, London,Raindance and Toronto all pushing this time of the year. One of my favourite festival is Toronto, but sadly this year despite been on their press list we have been forgotten about when it came to press releases, so apologies to the Canadian/American readership that was looking forward to our coverage we will make sure 2012 we'll be back in business.

They always say we have a double somewhere in the world , a doppelgänger living the exact same life as we are or possibly the opposite of of our lives, does that mean better? or is it worse off? in Kris Elgstrand, Dylan Akio Smith's comedy Doppelgänger Paul a tale of alienation, loneliness in need of some connection, what if you create something but someone else takes your credit? Do you have a Doppelgänger or is it someone plagiarising?

This sense of humour is what I like, dry, quirky Charlie Kaufman inspired comedy, check out the first trailer below!

Doppelgänger Paul from The Future on Vimeo.

Following a near-death experience, Karl comes to believe that Paul is his doppelgänger. When Karl finally reveals himself to Paul, a unique and troubled relationship begins to form, a relationship that is severely tested when Karl grants Paul the privilege of reading his 20,000 page manuscript, A Book About How Much I Hate Myself. When Karl‟s book is published 17 months later in a vastly edited version credited to two other authors/doppelgängers, Karl and Paul hit the road to confront the plagiarists but end up confronting themselves instead. Starring Tygh Runyan, Brad Dryborough, Ben Cotton and Matty Finochio.
