I don't usually promote films documentaries that are only playing on American television but because of whom the doc is all about it deserves some publicity plus there is a possibility it may aired in UK. No word if it will be show on PBS UK but this weekend part of The American Masters season Woody Allen: A Documentary will be shown and PBS have released the docs trailer. You may not like his recent directed films or you have reservations about his personal life you can't deny Woody Allen is a legend of cinema front and behind the camera.
Long time friend Curb Your Enthusiasm director Robert B. Weide has compiled a 3.5 hour documentary produced by wait for it Brett Ratner (yes I said Ratner) which the pair were given virtually access all areas as the y followed Allen through the making of You'll Meet A Tall Dark Stranger right up to Allen's best film in a while Midnight In Paris. It will be an intriguing documentary for a man who is very private rarely does interviews these days and think of the fantastic archive footage which will be shown too.
Plenty of friends collaborators have lined up to praise the 75 year old director who is as busy as he was in his acting prime, every one from Martin Scorsese, Josh Brolin, Penelope Cruz, Antonio Banderas, Larry David, Scarlett Johansson, Diane Keaton, Sean Penn, Martin Landau. As I said I do hope PBS UK which launched this month in UK& Ireland do show this probably not this weekend at a later date.
