Our friends at Metrodome Distribution have sent us the official UK trailer and poster for this year’s Academy Award Nominee for Best Foreign Language Film - IN DARKNESS. From acclaimed director Agnieszka Holland, IN DARKNESS is the true story of Leopold Socha, a sewer worker and petty thief in Nazi-occupied Poland, which hits the silver screen in March 16th. The film is playing as part of The Glasgow Film Festival next week I was fortunate to see about 1 hour of the film that really highlight's Poland's troubles and the dark, shameful times of her country during World War 2, highlighting the repression as well as the violence. Don't expect a sentimental film which gives a honest account of times living as a Jew and non Jew in Eastern Europe during WWII in a intelligent way.
In Darkness will be released in UK& Ireland March 16th but making its debut at Glasgow film festival on February 19th and 20th [more information & To Book Here]. In Darkness stars Robert Wieckiewicz, Benno Fürmann and Agnieszka Grochowska.
One day Leopold encounters a group of Jews trying to escape the liquidation of the ghetto and agrees to hide them for money in the labyrinth of the town's sewers. But what starts out as a straightforward and cynical business arrangement soon turns into something very unexpected, as the unlikely alliance between Leopold and the Jews seeps deeper into his conscience and they form an incredibly close bond. An extraordinary story of survival and the inherent capacity for love held deep within the human soul, In Darkness is an emotional tour de force that will stay with audiences for years to come. The UK premiere of IN DARKNESS will take place at the I0th KINOTEKA Polish Film Festival.
