As announced in the trailer post for David Croneberg's Cosmopolis, the world's most prestigious international film festival Cannes has revealed it's star studded line up. Every year speculation is rife in what films are heading to the film world's favourite summer hangout, we knew Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom would open the festivals proceedings on May 16th with Audrey Tatou's Therese Desqueyroux closing the festival 12 days later on May 27th. With no Lars Von Trier in sight to provide eccentric side of the festival David Cronenberg picks up the baton for craziness (minus the nazi jibes) thankfully only on film with Cosmopolis joining the 53 films split into 4 categories of Competition, Un Certain Regard, Out of Competition and the midnight screenings.
As I said earlier plenty of rumours going around if Terrence Malick would appear at the festival for the second year (stealing the Palm D'Or again) or Paul Thomas Anderson 's The Master, both not showing face however alot of regulars as well as intriguing/surprising choices make up the list instead. You'll enjoy films from Michael Haneke (Amour), Jacques Audiard (Rust&Bone), Jeff Nichols follows up the underrated Take Shelter with Mud , Walter Salles On The Road and John Hillcoat's Lawless starring Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Jessica Chastain and Guy Pearce will make a appearance too. Even Andrew Dominik's Killing Me Softly (aka Coogan's Trade) starring Brad Pitt and Zac Efron's The Paperboy also make an appearance in what looks one of the best line up's in a long time.
