Takashi Miike's HARA KIRI: DEATH OF A SAMURAI Coming TO UK This May

A year on after it's World Premier at Cannes 2011 Film Festival Takashi Miike's somber tale of honor HARA KIRI: DEATH OF A SAMURAI will be coming to the UK& Ireland this May. Thanks to Revolver on 4th May the film will receive a very limited theatrical release before going on general release 7th May on DVD & BluRay.
Last year when 13 Assassin's arrived in UK cinema's it brought back memories of television during my school days with BBC 2 showing either Japanese cult tv series Monkey or when that finished it's run it was Shogun. Hara-Kiri as you may know means honourable death and when it comes  Japanese period drama's that death wont be slit your wrist or hanging by rope, it's death by sword. Hara-Kiri is actually based on the 1962 version of the film of the same name by Masaki Kobayashi which actually appeared at 1963 Cannes film festival winning Jury Prize. Miike's version will be a lot slower  methodical version which may disappoint those who enjoyed 13 Assassins but keep with it it will be just as exciting.

Below is the film's trailer, buy links and press release sent to us from Revolver Group.

Revolver Entertainment and acclaimed director Takashi Miike (Audition, 13 Assassins) present a gripping tale of vengeance set in 17th Century Japan in this remake of Masaki Kobayashi’s 1962 cult classic.

Poverty stricken samurai Hanshiro Tsukumo (Ebizo Ichikawa) requests to commit ritual suicide at the House of Ii, run by obstinate Lord - Kageyu Saito (Koji Yakusho), in a desperate attempt for a honourable end. In an effort to persuade Hanshiro to rethink his request, Kageyu tells the tragic story of a similar plea from young ronin Motome (Eita). Hanshiro is stunned by the horrifying details of Motome's fate, but insists on dying with honour. With his final breath, Hanshiro makes a last request which results in the shocking revelation of a bittersweet tale of vengeance against the house of a feudal lord.
