They always the best way to a man's heart is through his stomach in Ritesh Batra's The Lunchbox this maybe the case that a simple home cooked meal can bring to lonely souls closer, watch trailer.
The Lunchbox (or Dabba) story is a simple one Sajaan (Irrfan Khan) a lonely office worker who follows the tradition of wives preparing lunchboxes for their husbands however Saajan accidentally gets a box made by unloved wife Ila (Nimrat Kaur). Over time the pair at lunchtimes continue exchange notes with relationship forming between to lonely hearts.
It's times like this you wish smell-o-rama tv has been invented as those metal lunchboxes will be bursting with flavours and aromas that would make anyone weak at the knees. The melancholic tone to the film makes The Lunchbox not your average romcom, sincere overall feelgood, you'll probably be a hungry bunnie after you watch this!Not your average 'arthouse' affair and with Life Of Pi/The Amazing Spiderman star Irrfan Khan in lead role this film should attract a wider appeal. What we don't get is why this one was overlooked for Indian's entry for this years Oscars in best foreign category, that fate now lies in the unknown The Good Road.

Ritesh Batra’s debut feature is utterly charming, bringing the romantic glow of an Ernst Lubitsch delight to the streets of Mumbai. Every day Ila (Nimrat Kaur) lovingly prepares a delicious lunch that is delivered to a husband who fails to appreciate the food or her. One day the food is mistakenly delivered to mild-mannered widower Saajan (Irrfan Khan). He is astonished by the tender loving care in every mouthful. Once she realises the error, Ila writes her mystery diner a note and soon they are exchanging the most tender of confidences through the lunchboxes. A wonderful, feel-good tale with a generous spirit that is quite irresistible.
It seems The Lunchbox will get a UK release in April, who will release it and if it will get a cinematic release we don't know at this stage. However next month on 25th and 26th February the film will play at Glasgow Film Festival book your tickets here. The film also co-stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
