Under The Skin and Ex_Machina have been two of the most inventive films in a long time. Alex Garland's directorial debut was a terrifying film that portrayed humans relationship with the machine. It delivered an insight of how far we've come when it comes to technology challenging our thoughts on 'The God Complex' and what is means to be human. As cinematic folklore has foretold one day machine will be more powerful than man and will be difficult to differentiate between the species.
In Jonathan Glazer's wonderfully unique Under The Skin saw Scarlet Johansson prowl the streets of Glasgow in a white van as an alien hunting men. Coaxed to her lair for sexual gratification only to find themselves another food source for her unknown Alien race. But did you know both movies are very similar in virtually all departments?
Apart from the thematic and stylish vision of both films the message of both films concerns overlap, one of our relationships with an 'artificial intelligence'. Whilst Ex_Machina approach might be more straight forward , Under the skin plays on the gender theme and the relationship with sexually dominance. Rarely did we see the female lead role essentially a predatory role.
Have a look see what you think....
