Salma Hayek’s Best films





Actress, director and producer are just a few of Salma Hayek’s talents. Of Mexican and Lebanese descent Hayek dropped out of school in Mexico to become an actress. She began her acting career in Mexico and got her first big break in Hollywood starring in Robert Rodriguez’s film Desperado. Later on in Salma’s career her role in Frida, in which she both starred and produced, got her nominated in the category of Best Actress of an Academy Award, BAFTA Award, Screen Actors Guild Award and Golden Globe Award. Salma plays a Queen in her most recent film Tale of Tales on the desperate quest to have a child of her own that she is willing to sacrifice anything. To mark the release of Tale of Tales we are looking back at some of Salma’s best films.

Frida (2002)

A film depicting the private and professional life of a Mexican Painter. Salma plays the role of artist Frida Kahlo who channels a rocky marriage and immense pain of an injury into her work.

In the time of the Butterflies (2001)

Inspired by a true story, the three Mirabal sisters were murdered for being part of an underground plot in attempt to overthrow the government. Salma plays Minerva Mirabal, one of the three Mirabel sisters.

Desperado (1995)

A sequel to the1992 film El Mariachi. Mariachi seeks revenge on the drug lord who killed his lover. Carolina a bookstore owner, played by Salma, is under the control of the drug lord yet enters into a dangerous relationship with El Mariachi.

Breaking Up (1997)

Monica, played by Salma, and Steve have been in a relationship for over two years. After a nasty argument they break up and start seeing other people. Out of the blue Steve asks Monica to marry him, only when the time of the wedding comes he freezes and calls the wedding off.

Lonely Hearts (2006)

A true story based on a murderous pair notoriously known as the “Lonely Hearts Killers”. Two homicide detectives track down the murderous duo. Salma plays Martha Beck one of the Lonely Heart Killers who lure victims through the Lonely Heart Club.

54 (1998)

A world famous New York City disco as told through the eyes of the employees. Salma plays a young aspiring singer, Anita, who becomes friends with young man bartender. The young bartender gets caught up in the partying scene and his life soon spirals out of control.

After the Sunset (2004)

A master thief and his accomplice Lola Crillo, played by Salma, just stole the three famous diamonds known as the Napoleon diamonds. FBI agent Lloyd tries to capture the master thief and his accomplice.


Ask the Dust (2006)

Salma plays Camilla a Mexican beauty who hopes to rise above her social class and make something more of herself. To achieve this her plan is to marry a wealthy American, but of course things don’t go according to plan.

The Velocity of Gary (1998)

May Carmen, played by Salma, and Gary are both in love with Valentino. Everything changes when Valentino is diagnosed with a deadly disease and is fated for death. Mary finds out she is carrying Valentino’s baby as he come close to his final days.
