Giambattista Basile has been described as the Neapolitan version of The Brother's Grimm. This month his dark twisted tales will come to lives in Tale Of Tales and tonight we get a new last minute UK trailer. An uniquely odd anthology film. dark, twisted essentially 'Fairytales for Grown Ups'...
Inspired by the celebrated fairytales by Giambattista Basile, Tale Of Tales is an epic vision of cinema from Matteo Garrone (Gomorrah) and his first English Language feature. The film screened in competition at last year's Cannes Film Festival.
From the bitter quest of the Queen of Longtrellis (Salma Hayek) who forfeits the life of her husband (John C. Reilly), to two mysterious sisters who provoke the passion of the King of Strongcliff (Vincent Cassel), to the King of Highhills (Toby Jones) obsessed with a giant Flea leading to heartbreak for his young daughter. Tale Of Tales weaves the beautiful with the grotesque, creating a stunning and unique work of gothic imagination.
Sea monsters, monarchs, ogres, and sorcerers all the main ingredients for fairytales but this film is one of those films that won't go for the traditional “Once upon a time..."tropes.It's a film that word's can't describe the true sense of what this film is all about. The film received an mixed reception at Cannes Film Festival this year however the best judge to any film, is yourself.
Tale Of Tales will be released in UK&Ireland on 17th June. The film is been released by Curzon Artificial Eye and will co-star John C. Reilly, Shirley Henderson, Bebe Cave, and Stacey Martin.
