A SINGLE MAN

by Travis, The Movie Encyclopedia
Hello I am the movie encyclopedia and if no one else will see it, I will.
Tom Ford is a name that most women know by heart. Guys scratch there heads and gays rejoice in one of their idols. Tom Ford has been a very influential stylist and designer for a long time but everyone has to evolve. So evolve Ford did but instead of doing a runway show on Lifetime or Bravo he decided to make a movie based on an under appreciated Christopher Isherwood novel called a Single Man.
A Single Man is the story of George. It's November 30, 1962 and its the day he says he is going to commit suicide. He is a British professor who is struggling after his partner died suddenly 8 months ago. George is fixated on the past and thinks his future is an empty void. He plans on meeting with his best friend Charley for dinner buts gets sidetracked by a Spanish prostitute and a young student who becomes fixated with George.
If this film looks like Mad Men then don't be surprised when I tell you it was made with the same phenomenal production team behind it. Tom Ford financed the movie himself and hired the best people he could to help him out. It shows in everything in the film. Everything LOOKS authentic and time appropriate. Everything feels like the 60s and it adds a lot to the film. Colin Firth's George is brilliant. While Firth isn't exactly on my radar as a great actor (I did like him in Bridget Jone's Diary though) this almost totally changed my mind. His performance is deep, thoughtful and he really pulls you in with his performance. Julianne Moore and Matthew Goode add a lot to this movie as well. While both their parts are a bit smaller they do mean a lot to the plot and add some serious depth.
This film is one that is really style AND substance. It mixes all of it together to create a deep, well acted masterpiece. I recommend this to anyone who likes a little flair with their film.
MY VERDICT: OWN IT
MOVIE RATING: 4 out of 5

Stellan Skarsgård stars as a "Gentle Man" in En ganske snill mann

Alot of people may not recognise who Stellan Skarsgard is, some of you may recognise him but may not remember what he was in. You may know him as Bootstrap Bill from Pirates of Carribbean (Wil Turner aka Orlando Bloom's screen dad) or even again as Bill from Mama Mia... aagh that guy!!!

Well he is an established actor and does alot of movies in Hollywood as well as his native tongue (well scandanavian) and here's the first trailer for his latest En ganske snill mann (A Somewhat Gentle man). The movie sees him play Ulrik a man whose just out of jail after doing 12 years for killing his wife and now out he considers either trying to reconcile with his family or go after the people who stitched him up.

Reading the synopsis from IMDB he's not a gentle man and this comedy Ill expect to have a bit of violence in it as it could be either a revenge movie or simply a reconcilation flick which could bring a few metal wounds.

The movie has been directed by
Hans Petter Moland who has been regarded as the "Ridley Scott of Norway"  though not as prolific and definitely still unknown on the international circuit though with Stellan Skarsgard (soon to be father of Thor in Kenneth Brannagh's THOR) in the movie that could all change.
Movie out in Norway on March 19th

Teaser for Turkish Big Bother inspired thriller EV

Last year we had Deadset  UK's homage to Big Brother with zombies waiting for the contestants when they finish, a few days ago we got another spin on the Big Brother with the Coatian The Show Must Go On. And now the Turks have got in on the game with EV when a simliar type of Big Brother type show is stopped dramtically when a gunman takes the contestants hostage creating a reality hell!!!

Wow! Even though I'm glad of not having to put up with Big Brother no more its actually great we are seeing different movies/tv dramas based of the show which actually spin off the idea of how pathetic but how true to life of Big Brother is watching you.

EV is actually the name of the famous Turkish national television channel the fictional show is based on and this movie comes from the brothers Alper & Caner Özyurtlu in their directoral debut and at the looks of QuietEarth post these brothers are highly thought of in Turkey and going with what we see from the teaser Im not surprised.

Below is an trailer with English subtitles and you wont have to wait long to see this if your from Turkey as its released nationwide on February 26th.
