Masayuki Suzuki’s Princess Toyotomi has been labeled as Japan's answer to Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code which you can agree on to a certain extent when it comes to historical matters as the for the actual film I got the feeling of more National Treasure. The movie is based on a award nominated novel byManabu Makime which stars Haruka Ayase, Masaki Okada, and Shinichi Tsutsumi playing accountants in charge of Japan's national expenditure & revenue books who come across a 400 yeard old national secret. That secret talks about a great battle in Osaka with the Toyotomi Clan over Tokugawa Ieyasu which they defeated and nowdays there descendents are hidden within Osaka City who hold the knowledge that Osaka could actually be a independent country!
The movie will be released in Japan from May 28th.
