Yesterday it was announced that the sequel to the cult horror flick from Tom Six HUMAN CENTIPEDE will not be shown in UK as its been banned by BBFC. The movie was denied a certificate on the grounds of it been 'sexually violent and potentially obscene' and this ban means the movie wont be available in cinemas or on DVD in UK plus the gossip that the movie was going to appear at this years Frightfest wont happen either.
The first movie was released in the country last year amazingly uncut (shown regularly on Syfy Channel) and though the was very distasteful it was original in its idea so give credit due to someone trying to be different . The sequel a man become erotically obbessed with the original movie and then focuses on the torture and fantasies of the new victims. There is one scene the man wraps barbwire around his penis another scene he rapes the woman at the end of the centipede as he's aroused by the victims having to defecate in each others mouth.
It makes you wonder why the first movie was given an certificate though it seems the first movie maybe getting the ban as well. Human Centipede becomes the 12th movie ever to get banned by BBFC in the organisations history, the most recent been Japanese flick Grotesque which was deemed dangerously offensive and Koji Shiraishi response to the ban was delighted and flattered ... since the film is an honest, conscientious work, made to upset the so-called moralists".
Last year it was the turn of Serbian Film which resulted in the movie getting 49 fresh cuts before the movie was given the 18 certificate but the publicity actually gave the movie more publicity and drove many people to seek the movie online and this will probably be the case on Human Centipede too.
Since the 11 that were banned by BBFC 8 have now passed and given certificates as well been released uncut including Tobe Hoopers Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Here at Cinehouse and The Peoples Movies are not big fans of Censorship and we do believe a person has a right to judge a movie by themselves and when BBFC passed a judgement of 'tasteless and disgusting' begs the question again why was it given a certificate? It seems that BBFC have realised they have made an mistake given first movie a certificate and you could say they have been waiting for this follow up movie with open arms.
Tom Six today has released a statement via Totalfilm to the ban:

Tom Six today has released a statement via Totalfilm to the ban:
“Thank you BBFC for putting spoilers of my movie on your website and thank you for banning my film in this exceptional way. Apparently I made an horrific horror-film, but shouldn't a good horror film be horrific? Is this first sign of censorship going back to the dark days of 1980's, right wing christian conservatives on there high moral horses telling you what to watch and then preach its a democratic society. Yes these people are allowed opinion but so are the people who want to decide for themselves, ain't ironic in 1980's we had a conservative government and 2011 unfortunately again that the old ways are creeping in again.
My dear people it is a fucking MOVIE. It is all fictional. Not real. It is all make-belief. It is art. Give people their own choice to watch it or not.
If people can't handle or don't like my movies they just don't watch them. If people like my movies they have to be able to see it any time, anywhere, also in the UK.”
