When I checked out this trailer for the first time automatically I said to myself this is the next 'Precious', everything from the pace, the mood even to music used very reminiscent to Lee Daniels 2010 hit flick, though it also does it's best to actually not fall into that comparsion. PARIAH is the debut feature from Dee Rees which was a massive hit at this years Sundance festival and focuses on the struggle of a young African American girl who is struggling with her sexuality and identity. It looks like a strong drama which tackles many African American issues as well as tackle a young Black woman within a strong religious community.
The movie looks like its aiming for a October/November release in USA and depending how well the movies does Stateside will determine if the movie gets an UK/Irish release date with a limited cinema release possibly coming not long after the American release or very early 2012.
PARIAH stars Adepero Oduye, Pernell Walker, Aasha Davis, Charles Parnell, Sahra Mellesse, and Kim Wayans.

A rousing success at its world premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, this deeply felt human drama is the feature debut of writer/director Dee Rees. Adepero Oduye portrays Alike (pronounced "ah-lee-kay"), a 17-year-old African-American woman who lives with her parents (Kim Wayans and Charles Parnell) and younger sister (Sahra Mellesse) in Brooklyn's Fort Greene neighborhood. A gifted student, Alike is quietly but firmly embracing her identity as a lesbian. With the support of her best friend Laura (Pernell Walker), she is especially eager to find a girlfriend. Wondering how much she can confide in her family, Alike strives to get through adolescence with grace, humor, and tenacity.
