Before I go any further with myself been Scottish I like to support all Scottish (& English, Welsh and Irish)productions but we have to draw a line somewhere. Also before I'm accused of any Glasgow biased as this film is from Edinburgh I come from Paisley which is not Glasgow, never has been and never will be (the postcode is a big clue Paisley PA Glasgow G, plus a difference of 12 miles too!) When it comes to films set in Auld Reekie anything is believable especially when we've watched numerous films from Scotlands capital from the world worst Lavartories that become deep sea oceans, to babies walking on roofs in Trainspotting to world famous grave robbers Buke & Hare and to soon to be released love affairs that happening once a year in One day.
A SPANKING IN PARADISE is the latest movie that's inspired the movies directors Wayne Thallon true events of a law student who has to wait a month before getting himself a work visa for USA and decides to work with his uncle in Edinburgh at his massage parlour. This movie made it s world premier at this years Edinburgh Film festival unfortunately this movie is even worse than the crap that was released recently set in Glasgow about speed dating which was forgettable , that forgettable I can't remember the name of it (though it joined the ever increasing list of movies Ive walked out on during the screening others include Congo, virtually every Adam Sandler movie).
No release date just yet for this one and amazingly IFC Films have picked up this one and there is the possibility they will be responsible for the Uk release too.
With a month to wait for his work visa for a job in America, law graduate Justin (Andrew Hawley) decides to return to Edinburgh, to visit his uncle and grandmother. On arrival he is quickly roped into helping out on reception at the Paradise Sauna, the brothel owned by his larger-than-life Uncle Rab (Simon Weir). Justin is pulled deeper and deeper into the dirty, dangerous world of the Paradise sauna until he is left with a very stark choice - stand up for what’s right and risk his American visa, or close his eyes and pretend it’s not happening. Whatever happens, someone at the Paradise is going to receive a bloody good spanking…Wayne Thallon’s semi-autobiographical dark comedy premiered at Edinburgh International Film Festival where it was not only awarded two Trailblazer awards, but was selected as the closing film for the ‘Best of the Fest’.
I think this movie premiered at Edinburgh 2010, not this year. I was there, and didn’t see anyone walk out. It was a sell-out by the way. It's pretty raw, but bloody funny. Doesn't deserve your venom at all.
ReplyDeleteI read today that it's got a US theatrical release on Aug 10th. That costs a small fortune to outlay, so IFC films - that's the folk who released Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 911, or 'In the Loop' and 'Che' - must have thought much more of it than you. If you really support indie film, then stop bitching, and get supporting. Otherwise you'll spend your future blog years reviewing Godzilla 85.
didnt even like godzilla, your allowed your opinion, i do support indie movie im allowed my opinion as well, if we liked everything no point of creating blogs, websites because there would be boring sites to read, so do you spend time bitching on other websites when that blogger does not like something you like? its called opinon you have one i have one im entitled to say what films i like and dont like
