Trailer for Gary Hustwit's Architecture Documentary Urbanized

Having gained critical acclaim for his 2007 documentary Helvetica and 2009's Objectified, filmmaker, Vice President of Salon and co-founder of Plexifilm (compensating much?) Gary Hustwit is back with the conclusion to his self-proclaimed 'Design Trilogy', and this time his gaze is fixed squarely on aspects of architecture, urban planning and social living philosophy.

If this sounds like very specialist stuff, worry not, as Hustwit has always found a way of presenting his subject matter and talking-heads with large audiences in mind, and the cinematography on display in some of these environments is nothing short of breathtaking.

Watch the trailer below and be on the lookout for Urbanized when it lands in New York on October 28th.

The final documentary in director Gary Hustwit’s design film trilogy (HELVETICA and OBJECTIFIED), URBANIZED asks who is allowed to shape our cities, and how do they do it? How does the design of our cities affect our lives? Traveling to over 40 cities and exploring a diverse range of urban design projects around the world, from massive infrastructure initiatives to temporary interventions, URBANIZED frames a global discussion on the future of cities.

The film features some of the world’s foremost architects, planners, policymakers, and thinkers, including Sir Norman Foster, Rem Koolhaas, Jan Gehl, Oscar Niemeyer, Amanda Burden, Enrique PeƱalosa, Alejandro Aravena, Eduardo Paes, Ricky Burdett, Michael Sorkin, Bruce Katz, Candy Chang, and many more, including extraordinary citizens who have affected change in their cities.
