Steve Zaillian To Direct Timecrimes Remake?

The writer is currently working on the press Junkets for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo when during several interviews he dropped the news that he's to direct a Hollywood remake of the Spanish Time Travelling thriller TimeCrimes. The original was released in 2007 directed by Nacho Vigalondo, a film that revolves around a man who relives his life 3 times. The film has gained a cult following worldwide and it's surprising that its taken several years for the prospect of a English language version, but now we know a version is coming with Zaillian also stating he owns the rights to the film.
"I also have been talking about the possibilities of directing this little film called Timecrimes, which is a movie that we are going to transplant to the United States," he said. "I think that would be a lot of fun and I would like to do it fast and cheap because I think that it is one of the few movies because of the way it was conceived you can do that and not sacrifice anything."
This film doesn't need to be overpowered by over the top special effects or a large scale film which can easily work on a smaller budget which makes this film very appealing. He was also asked if his version of the film will stay loyal to the original...
“I think it will be similar. The brilliance of that story is in the idea. The basic idea is that a guy relives half an hour of his life three times. It is such a big idea and a great idea that I’m not going to change that. The setting will change. I will co-write in a way that…there is actually a guy called Tim Saxon, who wrote a draft of it. It will change, but in terms of the big picture and big idea it is going to be the same.”
