BBC Films Gain 12 Nominations In 2016 BIFA Nominations, With I, Daniel Blake Winning 7





BBC Films has received a total of 12 nominations for The British Independent Film Awards 2016.

Ken Loach’s I, DANIEL BLAKE, topped the list with 7 nominations, VERSUS: THE LIFE AND FILMS OF KEN LOACH received one nomination, and there was a further nomination each for DANCER, MINDHORN, THE LEVELLING and A UNITED KINGDOM.

We’re also thrilled that with its leading tally of 7 nominations, I, DANIEL BLAKE clearly resonates as strongly with the BIFA committee as it does with audiences.“

Announced today in London by British actors Ophelia Lovibond and Douglas Booth, I DANIEL BLAKE, has been nominated for Best British Independent Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay. HAYLEY SQUIRES and DAVE JOHNS are each nominated twice – for Best Actress and Best Actor, and competing against each other for Most Promising Newcomer.

VERSUS: THE LIFE AND FILMS OF KEN LOACH, has also been nominated for Best Documentary, directed by LOUISE OSMOND and produced by REBECCA O'BRIEN.

DANCER, directed by STEVE CANTOR and produced by GABRIELLE TANA, has been nominated for Best Documentary - an unprecedented look into the life of a complex young dancer, Sergei Polunin.

THE LEVELLING, an iFeatures production sees HOPE DICKSON LEACH nominated for Debut Screenwriter (DICKSON LEACH also directs the film).

Comedy MINDHORN directed by Sean Foley, is nominated in the Debut Screenwriter category. The script was written by SIMON FARNABY and JULIAN BARRATT who also star.

TERRY PHETO is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in A UNITED KINGDOM, the inspiring true story by Guy Hibbert and directed by Amma Asante.

The winners will be announced at The British Independent Film Awards on Sunday 4 December at Old Billingsgate, London.
