Takashi Miike's Terra formars Trailers Warn Us Best Stay On Earth

You don't have to be Japanese to appreciate the eccentric qualities of Takashi Miike. When you watch at least one of his many diverse films you seem to come hooked for life on his next projects. In his latest project Terra formars a new trailer has been launched  which delivers a stark warning about colonizing other planets!

Nothing is as simple or straight forward when it comes to a Miike film. No stone is left unturned the cult Japanese director has virtually covered every genre and even most sub-genres have felt the wrath of one of his films. Terra Formars is based on the popular Manga whilst the actual trailer may not be subtitled you do still get a sense of the film's scope and that this is going to be one crazy ride.

Terra Formars takes place in the year 2577, after an attempt by Earth to terraform Mars for human habitation only to be left inhabited by an evolved species of cockroach that must be eliminated before any human settlers can arrive. To eliminate the so-called terraformars, a squad of genetically modified humans are sent to the red planet to wipe them out.

If someone said this was totally bonkers they wouldn't really been negative if anything it's more like a compliment, it seems his satirical touches will be in play too. The action looks absurd, loud and big which will keep hardcore fans happy but to someone whose not used to the filmmaker's vision and style might be too nuts for them. I do get a big Attack On Titans feel to this makes you think this could be one of those films that are so bad it's actually that good. The one issue that's plagued the film is the 'cockroach' alien design some are calling racist as they could be referring to Black men something that's rife in Manga and Anime. Miike seems to be aware of the issue but will it effect the film's release in Japan?

As I wrote this post we have come across this shorter but subtitled version of a trailer. We're not sure if this official version which could mean a Western release of the film or it's simply a fan sub cut as the subs are a little on the rough side.

Terra Formars is set for 29th April 2016 Japanese release and stars Rinko Kikuchi along with some of his regulars Ito Hideaki, Yamada Takayuki ,Oguri Shin and Takei Emi.
