The Great thing about independent &arthouse cinema's is the opportunity to visually experience cinematic masterpieces of generations gone by and thanks to BFI another classic movie comes to a screen near you.

Luchino Visconti’s sumptuous masterpiece The Leopard will be released in a breathtaking new digital restoration in cinemas nationwide. Backed up with a fantastic score, wonderful costumes with memorising scenes which makes you feel you will be part of the movie especially the fantastic ballroom you look anxiously to find someone to join you in the next dance.

Set in 1860-62, during the turbulent period of Italian unification, it tells the story of an aristocratic Sicilian family threatened by political upheaval. Starring Burt Lancaster, Claudia Cardinale and Alain Delon, it is one of the most beautiful epics ever made.  The Leopard is screening at the BFI Southbank, London throughout september as part of their Nino Rota season As one of the most successful of all film composers (who worked with likes of Fellini,  Coppola, Visconti and Zeffirelli)  a full range of Rota's films will be on the screen including The Godfather II and La Dolce Vita.
The movie was digitally remastered for this year's Cannes Film Festival and thanks to BFI the movie this weekend started its national tour of various cinemas up and down the country through out September into October and November.

This weekend saw the UK/Irish release of The Girl Who Played With Fire was released and ever since the movies which all 3 have been made (The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest out in UK November 26th) Noomi Rapace has become one of the most wanted actress for her protryal of Lisbeth Salander. Its expected Rapace will soon take the step into Hollywood but before then there's still the matter of a movie on the homefront with Svinalängorna (Beyond).
The movie is set in the 1970's about a young womans experiences growning up in a household riddled with abuse and alcoholism, Rapace plays Leena who is now settled with her own family with her christmas shattered by the news of her mother is dying which rolls back the dark memories and first time visit to her mom in her adult life.
There's a great cast of Swedish actors (including Tehila Blad who plays a young Leena, she also played a young Lisbeth as well)  and despite the over dramatic trailer this is actually a very powerful drama which shows why Noomi Rapace is in demand by hollywood. The only shock is none of the big festivals have picked this up especially whose in it but Im sure it will be picked up some festival, however the movie is due to be released in Sweden on November 12th, trailer after the break...

tiff 2010: No Sonic Screwdriver’s here,Offical Trailer For WOMB

The Playlist have posted online the trailer for the Benedek Fliegauf‘s indie drama WOMB. The movie stars Eva Green, the new Doctor Who Matt Smith , Lesley Manville, Peter Wright and Hannah Murray.
Rebecca (Green) has waited 12 long years to be with her childhood sweetheart again but only to loose him to an accident but now she can bring him back from the dead. The movie isn’t about a woman who can practice voodoo but the controversial look at cloning  and in this case human cloning and the ethical issues the cloning is raised.
The movie has a  mostly British cast with an Germany/Hungary/France produced movie which has been well put together highlighting the acting abilities of the movies main characters, I’m not Matt Smith’s biggest fan on the Doctor who side of things but outside the tardisI actually dont mind him as a actor. The movie does have a gentle charm to it but you do get the sense underneath the dark undertones of the movies subject matter.
Womb has just got itself a US distributor Olive Films so do expect somelimited release of the movie as for UK or Ireland no word yet but the next time the movie will be on a big screen will be next months Toronto Film Festival.

If it wasnt for the internet I wouldn't be here! Its a wonderful play you be educated with, entertained with but theres the darkside of the internet that makes you wish the thing was never invented. Barbara Wong shows us a way to abuse with her new movie THE BREAK UP CLUB.
The movie is about Joe a young guy who is devasted his girlfriend Flora has split up with him and Joe decides to join 'The Break up Club' to get over his heartache. By joining the club they say he'll be able to get back with Flora if he can break up another couple and his friend is who he braks up and Flora is back with him, then she breaks up again, comes back and off again. Its one hell of a emotional rollercoaster for Joe and whilst he does this he talks to a director (wong playing herself) about the club!
Despite the movie playing a little like a documentary it is actually a drama with some comedy and of course romance thrown in too! The movie was released in Hong Kong back in June so now its doing the rounds of the film festivals and the next port of call for the movie is Toronto in September, trailer after the break...

Have you just been dumped? What if there was a website that could get your loved one back? There is ! It is called BreakUpClub.asia. There's something of a charming feel about this movie despite been set in a backdrop of an steel works, I love the music too that gives the movie a real European edge even eastern european or even Juenet feel as the movies characters seem eccentric but also very likeable. Below after the break is a lengthy promo reel for Chinese filmmaker Zhang Meng's A PIANO IN A FACTORY.When you look at the setting of this movie it could really be anywhere as the world's industry is in decline and towns globally once thriving industrial centre are nothing more than a crumbling ghost town.

Fifteen-year-old Emma Evans is like any other teenage girl; she thinks that her parents don't understand her. She longs for independence and a life free of family ties and responsibilities and she is prepared to do anything to achieve it. But one day she will be forced to face up to the consequences of her actions.

Life seems to be carrying on as normal, until one day Emma starts experiencing frightening fits. Her parents are convinced that her problems are either medical or psychological, but when doctors´ tests are unable to draw any conclusions, the family is forced to look elsewhere for answers.

It all started off as a bit of fun, Emma never really believed it, but the truth is there is something dark and sinister within her, and it won't take long to surface.
