Eureka Video Announce Their Masters Of Cinema October/November Releases

Eureka Entertainment have announced via their twitter feeds (@eurekavideo & @mastersofcinema) the forthcoming releases in The Masters of Cinema series for the months of October and November 2013.

Proudly presenting films from 6 different countries, spanning 67 years, and encompassing classic Hollywood, silent cinema, and the finest in global art cinema, The Masters of Cinema Series is as eclectic as ever in its October and November 2013 line-up – a 5-release slate that includes directors F.W. Murnau, Kenji Mizoguchi, Howard Hawks, Fritz Lang, Metin Erksan, Ahmed El Maanouni, and Ermek Shinarbaev.

In October, we welcome Hollywood legend Howard Hawks into the series for the first time with his John Wayne Western classic Red River alongside the worldwide Blu-ray première of Fritz Lang's Dr. Mabuse, der Spieler. [Dr. Mabuse, the Gambler.] and a strictly limited-edition box-set of late-career films by Kenji Mizoguchi.

More cinematic treats follow in November with a gorgeous new restoration of F.W. Eureka Entertainment Buys Rights To The John Hurt Narrated More Than Honey Documentary

Today Eureka Entertainment announces its plans to release the award-winning film More Than Honey in cinemas 23 August. The film asks why bee colonies continue to collapse worldwide and the UK release will feature a brand new narration from legendary actor JOHN HURT.

Beautifully filmed and directed by Oscar nominated Markus Imhoof (The Boat is Full, Les petites Illusions), winner of numerous Best Documentary Awards across international film festivals and stunning cinematography by Jörg Jeshel and Attila Boa, More Than Honey brings sharply into focus our current bee crisis where numerous colonies of bees have been decimated throughout the world with 50% to 90% of bees having disappeared over the past 15 years. With one in three mouthfuls of the food we eat and 80% of plant species dependent on pollination, the honey bee is as indispensable to the economy as it is to man’s survival.

The decline of bees could have an enormous impact on the environment, which is dependent on the insects for pollination. If there is no pollinating insect life, fruits, vegetables, and field crops would be obsolete, leaving the future of much of the world's food supply in question. Or are parasites, new viruses or travelling stress to blame? Seeking answers, the film embarks on a world journey to discover the answers. More Than Honey is the provocative yet touching tale of what may happen if our bees become extinct.

Film 4 Frightfest 2013 Announce Opening And Closing Films

Big Bad Wolves from Israel and Indian Zombies signal global horror invasion at this year’s FrightFest. This year’s festival opens with the world premiere of The Ford Brothers THE DEAD 2: INDIA - the first-ever International production of a zombie film shot in India.

Howard and Jon Ford, the British director, writer and producer team behind the acclaimed African-set zombie road movie 'The Dead’ said today: “It's truly an honour to be the opening film – mind-blowing! Being at FrightFest for ‘The Dead’ was such an incredible experience for us and one of the highlights of our whole journey with the film. It's an awesome event with a brilliant crowd and we both sincerely cannot wait to see you all there!”.

The film follows the story of India-based American engineer Nicholas Burton (JOSEPH MILLSON) in a race against time to reach his pregnant girlfriend Ishani Sharma (MEENU). Burton enlists the help of an orphan street kid Javed (ANAND GOYAL) and together they make a perilous 300 mile journey across deadly landscapes as a zombie apocalypse threatens to engulf the entire nation.

Film4 FrightFest will close with the UK premiere of directors Aharon Keshales &Navot Papushado’s extraordinary revenge thriller BIG BAD WOLVES. Soaked in twisted tension, fairytale myth and seat-edged suspense, the film follows the lives of three men on a collision course: following a series of brutal murders: the father of the latest victim now out for revenge, a

vigilante police detective operating outside the law, and the main suspect in the killings - a religious studies teacher arrested and released due to a police blunder.

Aharon and Navot said today: “We always dreamt of having a film which would be good enough to be shown at FrightFest, but not even in our wildest dreams did we think that an Hebrew speaking revenge thriller would get us there. FrightFest is really making history here. As a token of our appreciation we promise to give everyone there a night they won't easily forget”.

All the directors and some cast members will be attending the festival.

Creatures of the night Cinehouse & The People's Movies wants you! We're looking for passionate individuals  'dying' (pardon the pun, sorry!) to share their skills as writers and show their love for all things Horror. Contemporary, trashy, hollywood, cult, Asian, world cinema, Classic, good or bad  if it's Horror we want you .

Share that passion through reviewing some of the latest films, relive classic films through retrospectives  or simply create exciting fresh original articles, features or lists. Horror fans want news watch the latest trailers so you'll know where to look to get those, it can be in separate posts or combine weekly, fortnightly posts the format, timescale we'll discuss nearer the time. We will consider other forms like podcasts, youtube reviews too as we want to give you that platform to shine!

Due to the nature of the genre most film reviews most will be on DVD or BluRay however there will be times cinema previews online previews possibly the odd festival press passes too! This is not a review only position though it will take up most of the position but once your in there will be opportunities to write and review in other parts of Cinehouse and The People's Movies too.

Sadly this is not a paying position we would love too but what we can offer is chance to watch films before their release dates, freebies, etc... Ideal for someone attempting to break into the industry or just a fan of film like us wanting to share their love for all things film!

Cannes 2013: Lars Von Trier's Nymphomaniac To Use Body Doubles, Film Gets December Release

Pre-Production Begins on Michigan Film, Papou

Mother and Midwife Pictures is currently underway with pre-production on its feature length film, Papou. Starring international screen actor Yorgo Voyagis (Zorba the Greek) and Evan Kole (The Avengers), this unique tale of an imaginative young boy and his sickly grandfather has been the recipient of over $51,000 on a Kickstarter fundraiser, almost $55,000 in potential Michigan Film and Digital Media Incentive rebates, and numerous press acknowledgments.

The film is being produced by film industry veterans Michael Sinanis and Christos Moisides and directed by 24-year-old first time feature film director Michael Angelo Zervos. Zervos, who penned the story himself, states that his "intention is to create a film that does more than entertain for a day. The importance of the ability to captivate an audience doesn't end when the film ends. The film must create conversation that lasts into the future. It must engage on an emotional and intellectual level."

The film's large cast of local, national, and international talent took several months to gather. Zervos states that he went through hundreds of children for the lead role alone, finally settling on him after being impressed with his ability to think quickly on his feet and energetic vibrancy. "Working with children can be challenging," Zervos admits, "but the challenges are offset by the great reward on screen. Children can have a natural innocence that is magnetic to an audience and I think Evan is rife with this power."

As promotion for the film, the production company has hosted a Facebook application on its fan page called "Your Papou Story". This application features dozens of real life memories and stories about grandfathers submitted from around the world by fans of the film. The story with the most "likes" on Facebook by the month of June will receive movie related prizes.

The film is set to shoot in the Metro-Detroit area beginning in July. The production company is still accepting applications for extra roles more info here

Roberto Benigni To Star in Aki Kaurismaki's Next Project Set In Italy?

The last time we read about Aki Kaurismäki was last year when his fantastic Le Havre was released. For his next project he's heading to Italy and he wants Oscar winning Roberto Benigni to star in it.

What the film will be about and the intentions of having Benigini are unclear at this moment but what we can gather the film will be inspired by 'the tasty wines of Salento'. This is a rather vague description however  Salento is part of the Apulia region of Southern Italy which happened to be where the 14th European film festival was hosted which the Finnish Auteur was a guest at. It seems the region has inspired the director which I totally appreciate (I lived nearly 2 years in Campania the neighboring region) but his grasp of the Italian language is only 'tourist' level so for this project to succeed he needs to learn the language better.

Originally Kaurismaki wanted Italian veteran Nanni Morretti (We Have A Pope) who unfortunately did not respond and now all eyes are on Benigni  who he described  who describes as a career like 'John Wayne  with a little Cary Grant'. If this project kicks off which we hope it does it's hard to see what direction the film will go, a film on wines may sound bland however with Life is Beautiful star Benigni onboard you can expect the film will be a mix of drama and crazy comedy.

Monsters: Dark Continent Starts Principal Photography

Vertigo Films have announced the  principal photography of their forthcoming movie Monsters: Dark Continent has officially started.

Monsters: Dark Continent will be the feature debut of Tom Green who has previously directed the E4 cult hit Misfits with the script written by Jay Basu. The film is a coproduction between Vertigo Films and 42.

The movie is a continuation to Gareth Edwards 2010 international hit Monsters that starred Scoot McNairy. Edwards was nominated for a BAFTA and the film has won four British Independent Film Awards along with many international accolades.

It is some years after the events of MONSTERS. There are Infected Zones all over the world. US military forces are fighting Monsters, attempting to wipe them out. They are met with resistance but it’s not just from the Monsters. The cast includes Johnny Harris (London To Brighton, Welcome To The Punch) Sam Keeley (What Richard Did) and Joe Dempsie (Game Of Thrones) with Edwards and McNairy returning as exec producers.

Producer Allan Niblo for Vertigo comments, “Monsters: Dark Continent is a sci-fi action film that remains true to the artistry and intelligence of its prequel Monsters as well as providing the excitement, thrills and set pieces of a genre film. We’re very excited to see Tom Greens vision unfold”.

Producer James Richardson adds "We are delighted to be working with this incredible new team - Ben and Rory are two very talented producers, Jay has written an excellent script, we have a brilliant cast and Tom is one of the most exciting new directors coming out of the UK."

Ben Pugh, co producing states, “Gareth Edwards created a rich and evocative sci-fi world with Monsters and it's a privilege to go deeper into that world for Monsters: Dark Continent with Tom Green, Vertigo and a very exciting cast".

Filming will take place in Jordan for five weeks and a week in Detroit. Vertigo Distribution will release in the UK with Protagonist handling international.

Press Release: British Independent Film Award Winners

An impressive array of British talent turned out this evening for the 15^th Moët British Independent Film Awards. The winners were announced at the star-studded ceremony, held at Old Billingsgate which was hosted by BIFA Winning actor James Nesbitt.

Best British Independent Film was won by BROKEN with Peter Strickland picking up Best Director for BERBERIAN SOUND STUDIO; Andrea Riseborough won Best Actress for SHADOW DANCER and Toby Jones won Best Actor for BERBERIAN SOUND STUDIO. Olivia Colman collected her second BIFA in two years, this time for Best Supporting Actress for HYDE PARK ON HUDSON and Rory Kinnear took home Best Supporting Actor for BROKEN.

BERBERIAN SOUND STUDIO won the most awards on the night, picking up four trophies for Best Director, Best Actor, Best Achievement In Production and Best Technical Achievement. THE IMPOSTER won two awards: Best British Documentary and The Douglas Hickox Award (Directorial Debut) for Bart Layton, matching the tally for BROKEN which also won two for Best British Independent Film and Best Supporting Actor. SIGHTSEERS won Best Screenplay and THE HUNT was awarded Best International Independent Film. James Floyd picked up the Most Promising Newcomer Award for his role in MY BROTHER THE DEVIL.

Joint Directors, The Moët British Independent Film Awards Johanna von Fischer & Tessa Collinson said: "It is wonderful to see so many films acknowledged by our jury which goes to prove what a strong year 2012 has been for British Independent film. As previously announced, Sir Michael Gambon was awarded the coveted Richard Harris Award for outstanding contribution by an actor to British film, and Jude Law the Variety Award, which recognises an actor, director, writer or producer who has helped to focus the international spotlight on the UK. The Special Jury Prize went to Sandra Hebron.
