If you love all thing absurd dark and damn right obscure ala Coen Brothers you should check out the trailer below for Portugese Movie EMBARGO.
The black comedy was directed by António Ferreira  and is about a hot dog salesman with an invention thats going to revolutionize the shoe industry but he has one one problem he's stuck in his car and cant get out. The Coens would love this script  but if this movie does well in its native Portugal dont be surprised if Hollywood comes knocking on the door and buys the rights to it.

enjoy the trailer which is after the offical synopsis.

Nuno is a man working at a hotdog stand, who also invented a machine which promises to revolutionize the shoe industry- a foot scanner. In the middle of a gasoline embargo and finding himself in a strange predicament, Nuno tries desparately to sell his machine, obsessing for the success that would help him get the things he wants out of life. When Nuno is mysteriously confined to his car, he misses the once in a lifetime chance to finally produce his invention, finding his life suddenly embargoed.

Trailer for Dutch Drama GREAT KILLS ROAD

Great Kills Road  tells the story of a mans journey to find his ex-wife and his metally handicapped son. He must go to New York City to search for her  and the film shows an foreigner trying to cope with the sheer scale of New York metropolis and this I can relate to. Coming from Scotland the largest city in my country is Glasgow (1.5 million) and I have worked and travelled many times overseas and last summer I travelled to China to Guangzhou a medium sized city for the country and it was 12.5 million, 3 times biger in the whole population of Scotland!!! Its even daunting at times even going to London (which I have to go to in 2 weeks), its the small fish in a big pond!
Great Kills Road is an intimate Family drama and at times feels like a documentary but the trailer below does show that but eventually the trailer does shift gears into a intriguing piece of work. The movie has been a big popular movie when it networked the Dutch Film festivals receiving very positive views, like the source of this post I have tried to get more information on the movie but have been unable to.
Great Kills Road is directed by Tjebbo Penning, check out the trailer below:

Fantastic trailer for Argentinian Thriller Cano Dorado

source TwitchFilm
Argentina are a country reknowned for creating many crime thriller movies by the dozen, its like the countries filmakers where born to make these movies and below is an exceptional movie called Cano Dorado (The Golden Gun).
Many Argentian thrillers seem to be very slow paced, stylish ala arthouse but Cano Dorado  directed by Eduardo Pinto is very much different, raw in your face and full of energy very refreshing for the country's movie industry and I would have no quarrels of watching this, great stuff.

Here's the movie's synopsis which was posted on TwitchFilm:

This is the story of Panceta, a young laborer from one of the poorer suburbs in Greater Buenos Aires. He lives with his mother, a widow, who greatly misses her husband, as does Panceta his father. Panceta's life is focused on his work: he's taken over his fathers forge, as well as working at a pipe factory. But his ambitions to make money have made him turn to manufacturing home-made guns and selling them in the outlying districts. Inexperienced and unaware of the danger, he is challenged by the local mafia.

One night when delivering his guns he meets Clara, a young girl working at the local community hall. They fall in love and decide to run away, going off in a freeing boat trip along the river. A man in love becomes an easy prey for his enemies, especially for Tacom, a powerful local mafia boss.

What had begun as a game turns grey and ever darker - the consequences are tragic and tormenting.

When I first saw this I thought someone was taking the piss, but no SUCK just looks a fantastically funny comedy directed by Rob Stefaniuk . Basically its a story about a failed band who will do anything to become famous and rich of course they do, they all become vampires!!!
The movie has a polethra of musical talents involved icluding Iggy Pop! Alice Cooper who just looks at home in this movie and even vegan proud Moby as a character called Beef! oh I forgot the king of modern B-Movies Malcom McDowell is in it with a great dirty eye patch, this just look silly but also a fun movie as well.
This movie debuted at the 2009 Toronto Film Festival and has did the rounds at a few other festivals hopefully this year maybe the odd UK or Irish festival as well. Talking of festivals it will be one of the many movies playing at the SXSW Festival  which kicked off today in Austin Texas USA.

It was the movie name that caught my attention LIKE THE MOON ESCAPING FROM THE CLOUDS by Korean director Jun-IK Lee. The movie is an martial arts drama and when you do see the poster as well as the trailer you will automatically will think of Zaitochi as the main protaganist in the movie is a blindman with a sword. There will be some inspiration from the Japanese story but according this trailers source the inspiration comes from a Korean Manwha a type of Korean comicstrip/manga.
Martial arts movies do have a international appeal and Jun Ik Lee wants to get more recognition for his work outside Asia and with this he has a good chance of soing so. He has already had a financial success with Wang-ui namja (The King And The Clown) now he wants worldwide recognition.

Disappearance of Alice Creed UK Trailer & Clip

source TwitchFilm

With the release of Clash Of The Titans only a few weeks away where we'll see Gemma Arterton in action but a few weeks later on April 30th Gemma will be appearance in a lesser known movie called The Dissappearance Of Alice Creed.
The movies sees Arterton as Alice a daughter of an millionaire who is kidnapped and held to ransom by 2 men played by the excellent Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes, Heartless) and Martin Compston (Sweet Sixteen, Damn United). At first Alice is terrified of her captor ex-cons Vic & Danny but realisation kicks in and she knows she has to fightback in order to survive.
This little UK indie thriller is full of  more twists and turns than the Amalfi Drive in Italy but what we do like about this movie is Eddie Marsan playing a sadistic evil vilian. The Disappearance of Alice Creed will be out in UK & Ireland on April 30th  and check out the UK trailer and a clip below...

Official site

Offical synopsis:  Two men - one in his twenties, the other nearer forty, both intensely focused on the task at hand - line the inside of a transit van with plastic. Shopping, they buy a drill, a mattress and other supplies. In a small flat they assemble a bed for the mattress and staple foam insulation and board to the walls and windows of a bedroom. Then, their meticulous preparations complete, they kidnap a young woman. They drag her from the street into the back of the van and, with a bag over her head and ball gag in her mouth, take her back to the flat, tying her to the bed in the room they have converted into a prison cell.

The kidnappers are Danny (Martin Compston) and Vic (Eddie Marsan), two ex-cons planning to make a mint on the ransom for the young woman. The younger, nervier of the two, Danny defers to the more experienced Vic, who acts with a steely conviction. Their hostage is Alice Creed (Gemma Arterton), daughter of a rich businessman, chosen by Vic and Danny as their passport to a better life. Terrified and immobile at first, it soon becomes clear that Alice isn't about to let her captors use her as capital without a fight. As determined to escape as Vic and Danny are to succeed, Alice enters into a battle of wills which strains the already fractious relationship between the two men. As the deadline for the exchange draws nearer, all three are brought close to breaking point, with Vic and Danny's foolproof plan descending into a desperate struggle for survival.

A taut, emotionally intense thriller, the debut feature from writer-director J Blakeson eschews genre convention, generating tension from the sexual and psychological ties that bind captive to captors. Produced by Adrian Sturges (The Escapist), the film stars Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace, Prince of Persia), Eddie Marsan (Happy Go Lucky, Sherlock Holmes) and Martin Compston (Sweet Sixteen, Red Road).
