Australian Cinema has always had a decent reception in UK over the past decade or two. If you switch on UK television you'll find 1 in 3 soaps are Australian and more recently on Scottish television we've had Underbelly a violentish crime drama. But when it comes to America it's not as great though that could change with THE SQUARE.
The Square is an stylish crime drama about Raymond a man tangled up in a love affair with Carla, a beautiful but troubled woman. She tests Raymond's moral limits when she brings him the cash earnings from her husbands latest crime dealings. They have once chance to go it alone, take the money and run...
The movie has been directed by stunt man Nash Edgerton, brother of Joel who is in the soon to be released awesome Animal Kingdom as well playing the Kurt Russell role in THE THING prequel.
This movie played at last years London Australian Film festival but there's been no theatrical release (or maybe we blinked and missed it), but American movie fans can see the movie on a limited release on April 9th with a possibly full release in May. Canadian movie fans will see a theatrical release on April 16th.

Trailer for Brazillian sci-fi Short ANALOG
ANALOG trailer from Ebbëto on Vimeo.
source QuietEarth
Above is the trailer for sci-fi short ANALOG created by Brazilian director Ebbeto.
The short movie is the second movie from this director and the short is currently doing the rounds at the film festivals and is getting some fantastic feedback. The movie can only be described visually as a minimalistic metropolis meets 1984 with a bit of Tron thrown in for good measure.
Analog is a film that tells the tale of a machine travelling in deep-space which has as a primary function the preservation of a living organism: a man. Strange events with biblical analogies begin, disturbing the machine and making it rethink it's priorities.
I have a funny feeling it played Glasgow Film Festival last month and if it did ill go crazy, this just looks stunning. I tried to see if the full short was online but my search was unsucessfull.

First Look at LEGACY, Starring Idris Elba (The Wire)
source TwitchFilm
Been an ex-graphic design univerity student despite not been working in that industry I still have the eye for powerful graphics and it was the posters for LEGACY (like one on left) that attracted me to what the movie was all about.
The movie was directed by Nigerian born London raised director Thomas Ikimi, so roll on February's Glasgow International Film Festival and the press launch and Thomas was there to promote his new movie and to announce Glasgow was to be the movies world premiere and closing movie. I tried in vein even with my press pass to get ticket for it along with opening movie Micmacs and I was left dissappointed.
Several people have asked me why did he picked Glasgow Film Fest not Tribeca, Sundance or even Edinburgh for his movies premiere? Simple the movie studio that back and created his movie was Black Camel from Glasgow so what better way to thank them and have it premiered in Glasgow. So whose in it and whats it all about?
The movie stars The Wire's Idris Elba as an Black Ops Operative whocomes back home after an failed mission in Eastern Europe. He's stuck in a Brooklyn motel torn apart from retribution and Salvation and as things close in on him it may only be the story is all he can leave behind.
Do you the amount of people who actually believe Idris Elba is American, well he's not ,born and bred in London just simply down to the amount of American based movies and television he has done in the past, so when I had to tell my American friends who are massive Fans of The Wire he's British they were shocked! The other thing that may surprise you is that the setting for the movie isn't actually Brooklyn its Glasgow, Scotland!!! Thomas Ikimi studied Film in New York and spent 6 years of his life in the metropolis and was able to adapt.
The movie also stars The Wire's Eamon Walker, Monique Gabriela Curnen and Richard Brake. There's No release date yet but expect a release sometime this year possibly summertime.

The movie is due to be released in France on APRIL 14TH but if your in Brussels, Belgium on April 9th you can ctach it at the Brussels Fantastic Film Festival

SYNOPSIS:(Source Twitchfilm)The year is 1912. Adèle Blanc-Sec, an intrepid young reporter, will go to any lengths to achieve her aims, including sailing to Egypt to tackle mummies of all shapes and sizes. If this movie is given half a chance it could do very well outside France but then again theres sadly too many people lazy to read subtitles so they would have to destroy the movie with a watered down hollywood OTT poor version.
Meanwhile, in Paris, it's panic stations! A 136 million-year old pterodactyl egg on a shelf in the natural history museum has mysteriously hatched, and the bird subjects the city to a reign of terror from the skies. But nothing fazes Adèle Blanc-Sec, whose adventures reveal many more extraordinary surprises...
Set in the carefree world before World War I, Adèle Blanc-Sec's adventures see the brave young woman fearlessly battling crooks, corrupt politicians, demon worshipers and mad scientists. Legendary cartoonist Jacques Tardi's original stories perfectly recreate the intrigue, romance and excitement of one of the most tumultuous periods in history.
Adapted and directed by Luc Besson (Arthur and the Minimoys, The Fifth Element, The Professional), Adèle's exhilarating, funny and fabulous adventures will be one of the most eagerly anticipated releases of 2010
The movie is due to be released in France on APRIL 14TH but if your in Brussels, Belgium on April 9th you can ctach it at the Brussels Fantastic Film Festival

Trailer for Dysfunctional Family fun with ACCIDENTS HAPPEN

source QuietEarth
When you think about certain stars who where big names at one point making good movies as well as poor movies then suddenly they disappear off the face of the earth and suddenly years later you have your own blog and you post a trailer for ACCIDENTS HAPPEN and in it is Geena Davis. In the 1980's she was in alot of big movies including the jeff goldbloum remake of The Fly, Cutthroat Island, Thelma and Louise all Blockbuster movie of the time and she sort of disappeared of the face of the earth. Obivously she did alot of tv work including Commander in Chief and alot Ive never heard of probably because they where never shown in UK!
Accidents Happened first appeared at the 2009 Tribec Festival and hasnt been seen since and its a very dark comedy but also serious movie, a family torn apart by tragedy and only come together when accidents happen but not for support just to crack up and then go awol again. I ask one question how many people do you know have been electricuted whilst washing the dishes? watch the trailer!
Imdb synopsis:There are dysfunctional families... and then there are the Conways. After a family tragedy, 15-year-old Billy Conway has become the de facto glue between his bitter mom, distant brother, and stoic dad. But when Billy starts to act out, everything changes for him and his family
