When your kids get sick, do you take them to the doctor or the vet? That's the sort of dilemma faced by Hana, the young mother of boisterous Yuki and her timid little brother Ame. But then Yuki and Ame are no ordinary children: thanks to their wolf man dad, the two can transform into wolves at will! A charming modern folktale from internationally acclaimed director Mamoru Hosoda (Summer Wars, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time), Wolf Children is a beautiful, touching movie that will appeal to all ages, whether they're anime fans or not.
In March, Wolf Children scooped the prestigious Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year - an award that director Mamoru Hosoda also won with his previous film Summer Wars back in 2010.
Co-produced by Hosoda's own Studio Chizu and anime veterans Madhouse, Wolf Children earned over $50 million in Japanese cinemas, making it Japan's fifth highest grossing movie of 2012. Wolf Children has won multiple awards, not only in Japan but also in the US and Europe. 19-year-old Hana is studying at university when she falls in love with a mysterious classmate with a highly unusual secret - he is the last descendant of Japan's now-extinct grey wolves, and possesses the ability to transform into a wolf. Not daunted by this, Hana and her wolf man lover start a family, with energetic daughter Yuki ('Snow') soon followed by her more timid little brother Ame ('Rain').
But when tragedy strikes and her wolf man suddenly dies, Hana is left to cope with the two young children on her own - and both Yuki and Ame have inherited their dad's power to shift between human and wolf form. Moving to the countryside and the seclusion of an abandoned old house in the mountains, Hana hopes to raise her family away from prying eyes …but life's not that simple.
Part slice-of-life drama about the joys and tribulations of single mother Hana raising her half-wolf kids, part rite-of-passage movie about finding your place in the world, Wolf Children is a funny, moving and accessible film directed by a true anime great. Hayao Miyazaki's The Wind Rises Gets A UK Cinema Release Date
After months of speculation on when Hayao Miyazaki's The Wind Rises will finally arrive in the UK.Today via their Twitter account StudioCanal put British anime fans minds at rest , the anime maestro's Swansong will arrive in UK cinemas on 9th May.

Now the date has been set for the arrival of the film we can finally look forward to some vintage Studio Ghibli most of all
The Wind Rises is inspired by Miyazaki's own personal dreams, the film centres around Jiro a young man inspired to become a aeronautical engineer. The Wind Rises is the epic tale of love, perseverance, and the challenges of living and making choices in a turbulent world.The film is set in the first half of the 20th Century and will chronicle major events of his life from falling in love right upto Japan entering World War 2 a pivotal event in Jiro's career.

The Wind Rises will more likely be released in UK dubbed with Joseph Gordon-Levitt lending his voice to play adult Jiro along with Emily Blunt, Elijah Wood, Many Patinkin, Stanley Tucci, Martin Short, William H Macy even Werner Herzog all lend their voices to the film. Anime fans mark 9th May in your diaries however if you can't wait that long, This Sunday 9th February you can catch the UK premier at Glasgow Youth Film Festival (click on link to book/more info).

LEEDS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2010 Line Up Annouced
Over the weekend 24th International Film Festival of Leeds annouced its line up for this years festival which will happen in November from 4th – 21st.
The festival is split up into 5 programmes: Cherry Kino which focuses on the contemporary experimental movies, Cinema Versa which delves into the world of documentaries , presenting the Human Rights & Underground Voices profiles an extraordinary series of radical ideas and maverick stylists. Fanomenon offers a fantastic selection of great movies from around the world as well a great selection of Japanese Anime but you cant forget the festival annual Night of the Dead X celebrating its 10th anniversary along with Day Of the Dead probably Leeds version of Frightfest with day and night versions. Official Selection offering a wide selection of UK Premieres from around the world all fighting for the festivals Golden Owl award and finally theres the Short Film City the festivals short film programme.
The opening movie will be THE KINGS SPEECH directed by Tom Hooper (Dammed United) stars Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter, Geoffray Rush, Guy Pearce and Michael Gambon. The movie is based on a true story about Prince Albert(Colin Firth) the Queens Father in his struggle to get rid of his stammer and he engages a friendship with Lionel Logue (Geoffray Rush) who helps him find his voice and guide the nation through troubled times. The movie had its world premiere at Toronto winning the peoples choice and what fitting place to show the movie in Leeds where the movie was partly filmed.
Some of the highlights of the festival are Mark Romanek‘s NEVER LET ME GO, aslo Aussie hit thriller ANIMAL KINGDOM, Palm D’OR winner UNCLE BOONMEE WHO CAN RECALL PAST LIVES, Pissed off Santa in RARE EXPORTS, METROPOLIS and RED, WHITE AND BLUE. I’m also angry with my self that I missed a chance in Glasgow to catch a screening of the Anime REDLINE which will be screened in Leeds as part of the Anime all dayer which runs in conjunction with the Comic Bubble comic convention which happens in the city at the same time.
The festival’s tickets will cost £80 for a single pass or £140 for two people giving you access to the whole event. The Night (& Day) of the dead festival pass costs £30/£25 (concessions) with a joint pass costing £50(£30 concessions). Watch New Promo Trailer For School Anime Seitokai Yakuindomo Season 2
Based on Tozen Ujiie's manga Seitokai Yakuindomo centres around Ōsai Academy, a former all girls private high school which has recently been integrated with the local boys school. The student council body is split between 524 girls and 28 boys,Takatoshi Tsuda is pushed into becoming the vice president of the student council, a council made up of only girls.
Seitokai Yakuindomo will premier on Tokyo MX TV on 4th January.

Teaser Trailer For Live Action Version of Ashita No Joe

When your going to bring a classic story as in classic Manga/Anime to the big screen its good to pick a classic sometime and Fumhiko Sori has done that with Tetsuya Chiba & Asao Takamori’s classic boxing manga Ashita no Joe (Tomorrow’s Joe).
With the poser of the internet I have been able to watch some of the classic anime's online as I am a massive fan of old school retro Japanese animation. Dont get me wrong I do love current anime but there just an essence piece of magic connected with classic animation that you just cant put words to but you know you love it.
The story focuses on the story of Joe Yabuki a troubled young man and he meets Dampei Tange who teaches Joe the art of boxing. During a stint in prison Joe meets a boxing prodigy Toru Rikiishi whom a respectful but fierce rivalary develops and their battles inspire other inmates to take up boxing resulting in various battles of whom are all of different skill levels and weakness.
The movie stars Tomohisa Yamashita (joe), Teruyuki Kagawa (Dampei) and Yûsuke Iseya (Toru) with Toho releasing the movie in Japan and the movie set to be released in Japan in Febraury 2011.
