No comments:

source TwitchFilm
The past week or two I've spoken to a few people who have asked me about my 2 movie blogs (this one and The Peoplesmovies) and with it been Christmas they said I should check out a little short movie that would be ideal viewing for the festive period. So been the novice that I am I said yeah ill check it out "what's it called?".........
TREEVENGE!
So I did check it out WOW!!! This is brutal stuff but brilliant short movie! Directed by Jason Eisener who was one half of the team that bringing  us Hobo With a Gun which will be a full length movie soon. Christmas is a time for giving and Treevenge does that, it gives the gift of death!!!
Have  you ever bought a real tree for christmas? ever think about what damage it does to the environment? spare a thought for the trees and fauna that live in the forests? Well Treevenge is the trees fighting back in this gruesome little horror short. The movie is not for the squeemish or anyone who needs parental permission to do/watch things, you would probably get booted out the christmas office party if you talked about this or even admit you like it, but hey it's good and it's great to watch something alternative to bring out your christmas evil spirit. Ok guys remember false trees next year no real mccoy or you'll just another victim of the revenge of the trees!

British Independent Film Awards 2009 Winners Announced

No comments:

Last Night Was the 12th Annual British Independent Film Awards held at the Brewery in London. We all know that the majority of the film award events are basically crap and predictable and has more rigged winners than the whole correlone family, enough to make the Godfather very jealous. Politics within the hollywoods elite is rife and even 12 months before the next awards they know whos is going to win.

If you where to pick out an honest, trusting awards ceremony you cant go wrong in the independent movie scene and the BIFA's are one those honest ceremonies. Yes I'm goin to be patriotic here and say why, the awards this ceremony give out are to the people & movies that deserve the credit and not to the movies that get the credit for filling up some fat cat's pockets full of money. There British and they support the independent movie scene and no matter where you live you should always support locally/nationally first and then internationally.
Below is a link which will take you to the report I created at THE PEOPLES MOVIES Blog on last nights awards. You will find who won what as well as a few video interviews from some of the winners.

Whats Up Lovely? Trailer

No comments:

source QuietEarth
Below is the new trailer for indie drama WHAT'S UP LOVELY By Gary King.
Actress Jean Dees plays Luci a pretty girl who has just lost her job and simply cant sleep at nights and embarks on many journeys around the sprawling metroplis of New York at Night. Many of her encounters are very strange and wierd and in one unforgettable night she confronts her fears and desires as she struggles to make her way back home.
I can relate at points with the character Luci as I went through a 18 month spell with no work, very depressing and unable to do nothing for so long can open you up to a journey to discovery as you try to realign your desires and aims in life.
I dont Know much about Gary King but reading the post by Quiet Earth he is an director to keep an eye open for. This trailer shows this movie to be a simple story of life and its pressures, but What's Up Lovely does look a enticing movie to watch.

Watch: UK Zombie short PLAGUE

No comments:
source QuietEarth  -----I wonder all those years ago when George C Romero gave birth to a horror movie genre of zombie flicks I wonder if he ever realised 40 plus years on how popular the genre still is? Year after year we get a movie inspired the great mans original work, some are good others are just plain crap, I have to admit I am a sucker for zombie flicks, Dawn of the dead is in my favourites list (both versions).
Below we have a wonderful little treat for all zombie and horror maniacs outthtere, thanks to Matt Simpson below is his zombie short PLAGUE . Last 17 minutes  and was selected  and shown at many film festivals worldwide including NYC's Horror Film Festival it was simply sleceted due to Matt's vision for the movie. Matt wanted the zombie flick to venture away from the usual zombie movies using someone outside of society and taking in a issue thats high on many country's agendas, immigration. The movies main character is an Latvian man Vilhelm who is an illegal immigrant as well as a gunrunner who heads to London for a new life, but when he arrive in the big smoke the dead have risen and consuming the living. But can he escape?

Whatever country you may come from you should always support homegrown talent as well as talent elsewhere and Matt Simpson is an talent that get's the full backing of everyone at Cinehouse/The Peoples Movie's Blogs!

十月圍城 - Bodyguards and Assassins extended trailer

No comments:

Ive seen a number of different version of trailers for this movie and havent bothered posting it but I decided what the heck, why not! apparantely the first trailer was to set the mood for the film with the next one sets up the movies story, little unsure what the third one is but this one like what Twitchfilm says proves Hing Kong action movies is alive and well and back up with with a fantastic replica Old  1900's Hong Kong set sets this movie up to be a big monster of a movie!
The movie is all about the bodygaurds of Dr.Sun Yat-Sen (regarded as the father of modern Chinese communism) during 1905 who attempt to protect him from the onslaught of assassins. Director Teddy Chan has brought together of virtually everyone in who's who of Chinese cinema: Nicholas Tse, Simon Yam, Tony Leung Ka-Fai, Leon Lai to Donnie Yen, Eric Tsang, Fan Bingbing, Hu Jun, to name a few...
The movie will be released in Hong Kong in a few weeks on December 18th and the movie has been bought for the Britsh, Canadian, Koren and Middle East cinema but there's no release date yet.....

ONE LAST SUNSET - Trailer

No comments:
Below is the teaser trailer for the indie horror zombie flick from Kevin Richmond ONE LAST SUNSET. The movie is about 2 sisters find themselves as the only survivors ofan apocalyptic viral outbreak that turns people to flesh-eating monsters. What I like about this trailer (which actually doesnt give much away) is the sound and the montage esque trailer, it gave me a feel of isloation, loneliness and the sense of something truely evil getting closer to you.
If your look for a zombie movie with a slight difference this coul be it

THE DESCENT 2 Exclusive Clip

No comments:

December 2nd see's the Descent Part 2,the  sequel to the cult British Horror movie from 1995.
Movie one I recently just watched on Film Four and it was a cast of unknown and I have to say Ive not really been a massive of an of British movies recently as the majority of them havent been great but I was impressed. The movie didn't have spectacular success but it did enough to gain a loyal hardcore base of fans as well as impress (and surprise) many movie critics.
Below is an exclusive clip of the movie which is out December 2nd in UK and Ireland and 2010 in the USA. The Descent 2 follows Sarah Carter is suffered a traumatic time in movie 1 seeing her husband and family been killed in a freak car accident  and goes on a all girl caving trip which goes horrifically wrong.  Recovering from the pyschological scars of the trip in a hospital Sarah must go with a rescue team back into the cave and face the horror again, with a few twists thrown in for good measure!

Police, Adjective Trailer

No comments:

I'll be honest, I would nt have considered looking at Romania for a movie. usually for a indie or foreign movie we have assumption of looking at France, Spain, Italy or Germany or maybe parts of asia, but the trailer for Police Adjective has been posted online.
The movie has been directed and written by Corneliu Porumboiu and is a comedy crime drama about a police officer undercover  who refuses to arrest a young man who sells drugs to his friends. When it comes to comedy, there is certain comedy styles that have a world appeal and others have a appeal that may appeal to a limited audience or countries and I would label this movie under this. It is a dry but quirky comedy which does look like it has alot of smart lines you have to listen for to appreciate the scene.
Even if you dont get the comedy it would be worthwhile to check this movie out  to the number of credits, awards and nominations the movie has picked up during 2009's festival season. 2 awards at Cannes (where it debuted) and a oscar nomination for best foreign movie.
I have no word of an British or Irish release date but on 23 rd december IFC Films will be releasing the movie in a limited cinema release and on VOD (Video on Demand) for USA/Canada.

MAMA GOGO TRAILER

No comments:

Here is the trailer for Friðrik Þór Friðriksson's new movie Mama Gogo.

Mamma Gógó is about Gógó, an elderly lady, who is diagnosed with Alzheimer disease and her son's and family's reaction to her illness. While Gógó is continuously getting herself into trouble, of the kind only a person with Alzheimer can, the son, the director is struggling with financial troubles after his film Children of Nature has flopped in the cinema. As Gógó's disease progresses her family decides that it is best for her to move to a nursing home. Gógó and her deceased husband, who appears on the scene, are not happy with that decision. The director is dependent on others when it comes to his finances and when Gógó settles into the nursing home he decides to sell his mother's apartment and valuable artwork but the profits of the sale help him to get by. -IMDB
Friðriksson seems to headed back to the roots that won him a oscar nomination a while back and I would say the movie itself is based on his own life and how he got that oscar nom. Its amazing what foreigners and a little gold man can do to get you recognition in your own country. If the nod never arrived Icelandics wouldn't have taken notice of his work

Animated Short: Walter Beckett is PIGEON IMPOSSIBLE

No comments:

You mask yourself is this Tom Cruise's new Mission Impossible movie gone animation? No, this is the animated short of Pigeon Impossible directed by Lucas Martell .
The full short created in CG and now released in its full length in Hi-Def thanks to Youtube. The short like everything these days done the festival circuit and went down very well where ever it was played and I think sometimes instead of the adverts (still include the trailers), little shorts like this be it animated or not would be ideal to be shown in previews before the main movie comes on. This would be great as it would give these talented directors a chance to show their pride and joy to a wider audience though reality cinema's wont budge as they would loose alot of business by leaving out the adverts.
Enjoy the short and why not click on the link to the movies offical website and look at loads of pictures and a behind the scenes diary of the movie as well.

Charlotte Gainsbourg is a sucker for crazy releationships - Persécution trailer

No comments:

Charlotte Gainsbourg fair picks the movies that have that crazy mucked up relationships as recently seen in Lars Von Trier's Antichrist and now she is in the thick of it in Persecution.
This movie is the latest offering from French director Patrice Chéreau who is known for his 1990's movie La reine Margot (Queen Margot) which which shown him in the limelight despite the inaccuracies in the history/facts of the movie.

Charlotte Gainsbourg plays a woman called Sonia in a love/hate relationship with Daniel played by Romain Duris and out of the blue a mysterious man (Jean-Hugues Anglade)
turns up at Daniels home. Suddenly Sonia splits with Daniel and fingers pointat Sonia as if the man's arrival was a ploy of hers but long after she's gone the man still harrasses Daniel. Questions are now asked who this man is and why he's really here?
Watch the trailer below and you'll see it's not going to be about a failed relationship but more a dangerous and mysterious game. The movie was shown last month at the London Film Festival but I dont have info of an release in the indie/arthouse cinemas in Uk or Ireland, though December 9th it will get a cinematical release in France.

The solitary Daniel and Sonia share an uneasy love/hate relationship. Daniel's life is disrupted by the appearance of a stranger that proceeds to insinuate himself in his life. The man's persistence takes its toll on Daniel and Sonia, leaving Daniel alone with nagging questions of "Why?"- IMDB

La Bella Gente (The Beautiful People)

No comments:
Here is the first trailer for La Bella Gente or Beautiful People directed by Ivano De Matteo. The movie centers around a couple who pick up a young Ukrainian Prostitute on the side of the road and they take the girl home and try and try to re-habilitate her. Things go pearshaped whe the couples son arrives home and he becomes fatuiated with her. Things look like its going to be a big happy ending but looking deep into the movie its more a question of lifes morality and trying to do good and the price they pay in trying.
This is De Matteo's debut movie and like many good new movies its doing its rounds in the festivals network. The trailer howver doesnt give much of the story away, anyway enjoy....

Jessica Hausner's Lourdes trailer

No comments:

One great thing I like about Film Festivals is the fact there is many movies that make the premiere and sometimes only appearance in that particular country. Lourdes seems to be one of those movies that seems to float around the world's main festivals and rarely see's a film run in a cinema apart from the movies origin.

Lourdes is a low key drama with some comedy moments about Christine (Sylvie Testud) a wheelchair bound woman  who goes to Lourdes, France on a pilgramage. She's not really looking for a cure but more company and friendship to cure her of her isolation.

Some people may find the movie hard to understand due to the deepness and special bond Lourdes has for many people worldwide but director/wroter Jessica Hausner
does seem to find the right balancefor the movie by not overstepping the mark, just have to look at the accolades the movie has picked up in the festivals.

ISLAND OF VAMPIRES (HIGANJIMA) Trailer

No comments:

Oh we love our manga comics and Animes at Cinehouse UK and I was chuffed to see this one popped online, the trailer for Higanjima (Island of Vampires).
This movie is an adaptation of the popular Japanese comic book of the same name which centres around a student Saki who goes searching for his brother who has mysteriously dissappeared and her search leads to the mysterios island of Higanjima with a village populated with vampires.
When you watch the trailer you've got to laugh at some of the makeup but it does make up with the scary(ish) vampires but awesome trailer. Manga is pure fantasy with a lots of over the tops items in it, but that makes me want to see more and more and did I say more?
Warner Bros is releasing this in Japan, Hands up if this does really well in its native country will we see it he? or at least a bad waterdown Hollywood (F)muckup?? My arm is getting sore, watch the trailer.......

Higanjima is an eerie island occupied by vampires, from where none has ever come back alive. When teenager Akira hears that his missing brother has been seen in the island, he decides to investigate with several friends - IMDB.

Woke Trailer

No comments:
When people complain about little things in life they cant have, why not think for a minute at those who cant have those little things you moan about or even cant enjoy them properly. Narcolepsy is one thing you dont want, its a condition you never know when you can fall asleep, In WOKE Scoot our lead male character has this condition.

Woke is a story about Scot (Chris Gaede) a narcolepic man and a Nora (Caroline Macey) a woman sent to to take Scott to his childhood home and during the adventure they have getting there the couples relationship blossoms and becomes romantic. This is a simple but beautiful little looking movie which is simple with a twist of mystery and oddness thrown in for good measure

Unmade Beds Trailer

No comments:

It's Been around for ages this movie and is due to be released in UK&Ireland on December 11th, here is the trailer for UNMADE BEDS.
Written and directed by Alexis Dos Santos and is a story about Axl and vera 2young foreigners living in London trying to rediscover there roots and of course romance. I dont know much about this movie but as I like to say its part of my journey to learn and enjoy indie cinema and it's always best to start your "film eduction" with your own countries indie movie scene and then progress into the other countries from around the world and enjoy.

Axl wants to find his long-lost father and rediscover his past. Vera just wants to forget hers as she tries to move on from heartbreak. Their stories come together in the melting-pot of 21st century London. - IMDB

Shake Hands With A Devil Trailer

No comments:

After nearly 3 years on hold Shake Hands With The Devil will finally get an American release in 2010 and here's the trailer thanks to Firstshowing.
It was a way back in 2007 when this movie first came out at the Toronto Film Festival which followed with a cinema release in Canada itself, but thanks to Regent Releasing its getting a American release (no info on a British/Irish release yet). Movie Stars French-Canadian star Roy Dupuis (Jean-Paul Mercier in Mersine:Killer Instinct) as Général Roméo Dallaire whom the movie is based on, his autobiography of his time in Rawanda during the country's genocide killing in 1994. The movie also has Deborah Kara Unger (Silent Hill, Crash) as Emma a journalist who records General Dallaire's phlight in Rawanda. If you are old enough or can remember 1994 no matter what part of the world who come from it was a tragic and disturbing event which shouldn't have happened simply due to the west arrogance not to get involved more.
This movies story is one people should know about and like any world conflict should learn about it and make sure nothing like this should happen again. The movie has got stunning cinematography and 2 very good actors, so the movie should be checked out.
Shake Hands With The Devil is dorected by Roger Spottiswoode
(Under Fire, Tomorrow Never Dies, Turner & Hooch, The 6th Day) and written for the Big screen by Michael Donovan .
Synopsis IMDB -
Canadian Lt. General Romeo Dallaire was the military commander of the UN mission in Rwanda and this movie is personal and, all too true, story of his time there during the genocide of 1994. It is not quite as moving as the earlier Hotel Rwanda and is less geared to drama and emotional manipulation, but it is still grim and upsetting. The direction is slightly surreal and the acting is quite good, though I found Dupuis to be just a little too wooden (just a little over that line between stoic and wooden) in the lead role. It suffers a little from being virtually a one man show, with Dupuis lead character being the focus of virtually every scene but there is no denying the power and importance of this film.

Romeo Dallaire is a very brave, and equally honest, man and that is really what makes this film work. He is not afraid to show his human emotions and frailties, and this makes his courageous effort to save lives during The Rwandan genocide, at no small personal risk, all that more impressive. This film carefully documents the beginnings of the atrocity and fearlessly lays blame. Dallaires helplessness is enveloping and we feel his frustration in the face of ever-increasing shortages of men and equipment.

PAA - Trailer

Digg!

Welcome to the world of PAA, The Story of a 13 year old boy who has rare condition the accelerates his ageing and he looks at least in late 60's. Paa is played by Bollywood superstar Abhishek Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan plays Paa's Father Auro.
When you read the synopsis, look at the offical movie website  or just simply watch the trailer below the story of this movie is enough to bring a tear to your eye and have Hollywood knocking on the door of the movie's workaholic director R. Balki "Give us that movie!!" (and probably destroy the goodness of the movie).

This is a rare story of a father - son relationship which will pull the people in through the doors to watch this or  at least to see Paa's monkey dance which I think will rival Ricky Gervais the Office Christmas dance, so do you really wanna see it? Oh yes you do!

PAA will get a U.K release of December 4th 2009, the same day its released in India.

Teaser Trailer for (Кандагар) Kanadahar

No comments:

Digg!

Russia these days seems to be making a name for itself with big budget sci-fi/fantasy/horror blockbusters such as Nightwatch and Daywatch. Its also nice to see that they can make real drama movies as well and here is a teaser trailer for on of them, Kandahar (Кандагар).

Based on a true story about seven Russian pilots (only five in the movie) who in 1985 had their plane hijacked by the Taliban in Afghanistan. There captors imprisoned the men for over a year and subjected them to torture, brutality, starvation and even attempts to convert the pilots to Islam. Somehow the pilots where able to neutralize the Taliban captors and escaped on there aircraft.

To make the movie as authentic and true to the story the filmmakers invited Vladimir Sharpatov, the captain of the crew, and used his diares and memories in the movie.

Director of Kandahar is Andrey Kavun, with Vladimir Mashkov, who stars in this movie. Kandahar opens in Russian Cinemas on 4th February, 2010.

Ulrich Tukur Interview: Michael Haneke's A White Ribbon

No comments:

Friday saw the release of Michael Haneke's movie A White Ribbon (Das weisse Band - Eine deutsche Kindergeschichte). This is a movie about strange events happen in a small village in the north of Germany during the years just before World War I, which seem to be ritual punishment. The abused and suppressed children of the villagers seem to be at the heart of this mystery.
The movie touches very sensitive subject of child abuse which may not appeal to everyone but we cannot hide from the fact that sadly abuse to children still happens all around the world. If you include abuse in a movie or a book it has to be handled in a way to alert the reader/or viewer such things happen but dont do it in a way to disgust.
Ulrich Tukur is a star of the movie and Screenrush recently caught up with the actor on a promotional tour for the movie and here's the interview:

More about this movie

Monster frolics in the air with ALTITUDE

No comments:

We all love our monster flicks, oh yes! so lets picture a group of young adults, who go up in a small general aviation plane and for a little flight. They ecounter some dark storm clouds but what they dont realise is there's nice nasty monster lurking in those clouds, like a giant flying octopus. If you look very closely at the end of the trailer you get a quick glimpse of the nasty pant-filling beast, oh boy it's big one!!!

Altitude is an indie horror flick directed by Kaare Andrews who has done a load of shorts recently, this movie doesnt really have any known actors in it so I think this maybe a straight to DVD in UK & Ireland sometime in 2010.

Thanks to Firstshowing for the trailer.
