Arthouse Horror in THE DEFILED

No comments:

source QuietEarth
What I love about this trailer is the retro/classic feel it has to it. Fans of cult horror movies will like the look of this movie THE DEFILED. This arthouse movie is written and directed by Julian Grant and when you look at it its like its stuck in a visual time warp between Noseferatu and Night of the Living dead, which you see in the above photo.Verbally there is only one line in the whole of the movie which is not alot as its a 100minute feature but visually and storywise its an very intriguing peice of work, the trailer is only 30 seconds long but you do get a sense of the movie is all about.

synopsis:
Set in a near distant future where an N1HI style of virus has decimated the populace, an infected man, his new-born child and an enigmatic beauty must seek food and shelter in this world-turned-wrong. - imdb

source TwitchFilm

We love our short films here at Cinehouse and here's one called LEAP. This indie sci-fi short was created by Dan Gaud and this is an great little short which packs alot of punch and shows enough evidence to be good alot longer than 7 minutes.
The story is about a young who discovers he can pass into a parallel dimensions by falling from great heights. Apart from the early hiccups this little movie is an diverse solid creation, tell us what you think, enjoy...

Slashfilmc ouldn't get alot of information on the movie same with their source TwitchFilm but what we do know is that Twitch compare this movie a cross between the futuristic landscape of Blade Runner meets the grime reality of Blomkamps District 9 and with that description thats enough to win me over possibly you?

According to sources this teaser is part of a trilogy but a different part of the world connected with his other near completed short Similo which there's  information either. Looking at MacGregor's Vimeo site it says under the trailer "coming some day", lets hope its soon!!!

Trailer for Clay Liford'S EARTHLING

No comments:
source QuietEarth
Earthling  is a Sci-Fi story about a small group of people who woken up to the fact their lives have been one big great white lie. Due to a unknown amotspheric event  which has brought the truth to the surface that this small group of people are actually aliens who have been disguised as humans. The group must dace the fact should they try find what home really is or just simply live the rest of their lives as Humans.

The story for this movie is what attracts you to this movie which has been written and directed by Clay Liford. The music is fantastically hypnoticand visually wonderful to watch. You can see from the trailer the group have been living varied lifestyles some look like they want to go others want to stay. The music is hypnotic it gives you the impression of a nice squeeky clean living but deep down everything you see isnt as rosy as you think.

The movie will be one of the many movies been shown SWXW festival next month in Austin Texas.

Matt McCormick's SOME DAYS ARE BETTER THAN OTHERS Trailer

No comments:

source QuietEarth
We all have those days that are better than others, Ive not had many great days the past year, always start happy and end in tears. Below is the directoral debut for Matt McCormick with Some Days Are Better Than Others.
This is an strong indie drama about an "exploration, emptiness, human connection and abandonment while observing an interweaving web of awkward characters who maintain hope by inventing their own forms of communication and self-fulfillment." as described on QuietEarth. The trailer looks rather depressing but from the online commertary for the movie it's not really that dull, but a very character driven piece of work.
The movie also stars exS;eater Kinney guitarist Carrie BrownsteinandShins singer James Mercer giving the film a nice extra indie touch. Sundance Festival has just finished and so everyone moves onto the next big one, well to me it would be Berlin but to some its SXSW festival  an major music, film and multimedia festival in Austin Texas, U.S.A and this movie will be part of the line up with Cyrus, McGruber, Lebanon and Kick-Ass.

Trailer for Thai-Action Drama IN THE SHADOW OF THE NAGA

No comments:

source Twitchfilm
In Thailand they've caused a bit of an issue on ratings of films shown and made in there country especially alot of bad/negative comments. Like any new laws theres always loosers but there is also alot of winners and the trailer below NAK PROK (In The Shadow Of The Naga).
The movie is set in a Bhuddist Monastery which has been built over where alot of money or treasure was buired. In order to retrieve the loot 3 criminals must enter the monastery as monks. Thailand is an very passionate country about religion and Bhuddism especially and in this film there is scenes of violence against the monks as well as scenes of the criminals been ordained as monks and a few years ago this would have been a big no no and the movie would have been banned. You think about it anywhere where religion which is a big part of peoples lives or anything sensative which was protrayed violently would be cut big style or even banned.
The movie has been given a 20+ rating which is a bit of an weird rating but then again in some states in USA you have to be 21 to drink alcohol legally. I wonder if On Golden Pond was released would it get a 65+ rating???

here's the trailer in english subtitles:

U.K Trailer for Phillip Ridley's HEARTLESS

No comments:

source The Peoples Movies

Below is the first U.K trailer for HEARTLESS which has just been posted online Thanks to Lionsgate.

During 2009 especially summer period we heard alot about this Phillip Ridley movie especially from the director and the films main stars Jim Sturgess and Noel Clarke but never seen a trailer until now.
The movie is about a young man called Jamie who is born with a large heart shaped birthmark on his face. The birthmark effects Jamie pyshically as well as mentally and would do anything to get rid of it.He discovers that the gangs in the east part of London (where the film is based), many of its members are actually realife demons and he is tricked into doing a deal with the devil who grants him his wish and removes the marks. As usual do a deal with the devil there will always be setbacks.
As well Jim Sturgess & Noel Clarke, Eddie Marsan, Timothy Spall and Clémence Poésy also star. Heartless is going to get a very limited cinema release in U.K on May 21st for 3 days when on 24th it will be available on DVD. If you happen to be in Glasgow around 19th February you can catch it at the citys Film Festival (click here for deatils).
Its sad certain movies dont get the exposure they deserve with a decent run in the cinemas and only thanks to First Showing who were able to get the code that we can watch the trailer below as YAHOO UK dont seem to be bothered much about it.

Trailer for Irish post apocalyptic movie DITCHING

No comments:

source QuietEarth

Below is the trailer for Northern Irish Arthouse drama called DITCHING. The movie is set in a post apocalyptic Northern Ireland where the Ulster is a dangerous fuedal and depopulated land, full of decaying towns with primative techonolgy. The people are confused and have also forgotten there troubled pasts and improvise ceremovies and games but still give no comfort to the world around them that makes them feel threatened but have no idea what awaits them at the end of the journey.
The movie was directed by an art collective from Belfast called Factotum and was their first venture into film making. Wasnt a high budget affair but still it is an noble first attempt and one Northern ireland 's independant cinema would be proud of.

Space Cadet time for ZONAD

No comments:

source QuietEarth
Greeting Earthlings I am Zonad and here is my trailer. Zonad is a comedy from Ireland from John Carney who also co wrote it with his Brother Keiran. The movie follows a "alien" from a planet far far away in a glaxay far far away who visits a small Irish community of Ballymoran. His visit coincides with a recent  sighting of a rare comet which makes the localfolks very gulliable to think he really is a alien rather than Liam a recent rehab escapee.
This does look funny but some Irish people maybe a little offended as it does tend to make the Irish look stupid. It is lighthearted and it has been created by an Irishman so no blame can go on non-irish people, though I can understand been scottish we can be prone to the odd pisstake from non-scottish people. They just like to "sterotype" and think all people from certain countries all talk, look the same, after a while you just have to take it on the chin!
Zonad will be out in Irish cinemas from March.

Trailer for Koji Wakamatsu's Kyatapirâ

No comments:
source TwitchFilm
The Berlin Film Festival is only a few days away and amgry I never took the chance cover the festival via this blog (I may try). This is Europe's first major film festival of the year and usually one that many film distributors try tie up deals for there European audiences.
Below is the trailer for Kyatapirâ (Caterpillar) by Japanese director Koji Wakamatsu and the movie is based on a short story called "Imomushi" by author Rampo Edogawa. The story is about a soldier who returns home a mutli-amputee looking at TwitchFilm's post this movie does seem very faithfull to the original story. Director Wakamatsu has in the past been infamous for including his political stance in many of his movies, unfortunately I could n't say if true or what political stance he has, but looking at the trailer possibly very working class maybe even anti-war.

Tony Jaa's ONG BAK 3 teaser trailer

No comments:

sources We Are Movie Geeks

I'd be honest and say I've never seen a Tony Jaa movie, so what Ong Bak 1 & 2 (which was just out a few months ago!) is about I couldnt tell you. What I do know about Tony he is one the leading actors in Martial Arts movies, he mixes styles creating his own unique brand.
Dont expect much plot or even talking to that matter, but thats not in a nasty way about the movie. The techinical ability of this guy is unbelievable and his fighting skills do all the talking. Watching the trailer below is like watching a music video but once again its not a criticism, its just Tony Jaa. As for what the plot is I dont actually know but if youve seen movie two it is a continuation of how things ended, as ive been told.

Movie three is out in Thailand this April, enjoy the trailer....

Offical Trailer for Greek period movie Mavro livadi (Black Field)

No comments:

source QuietEarth
Below is the offical trailer for Greek Movie Mavro livadi (Black Field). This is a very bleak period drama, not from the typical period era we usually see from Greek inspired movies but from a later period of the Ottoman Empire  period when the Turks ruled Greece (1654 period time).
The movie sees a wounded Turkish warrior arriving at all female monastery, heavily wounded who take him in. He gets nursed by a young nun who falls in love with the turkish soldier. The young nun was on a oath of silence and she has a secret she doesnt care sharing with the soldier that she is actually a he, a boy.
Right away this is an "Crying Game" type movie and you would true in saying that.. Visually this movie is very haunting but also visually beautiful. When the Crying game came out in the 1980's seeing a transgender romance would have been very contriversial but now, sexuality not really a big taboo now. Howver it would be curious to see the reaction in other countries to this movie, countries that may not be as opened.

Movie opens February 12th in Greece

Takeshi Kitano's OUTRAGE first teaser trailer

No comments:

source QuietEarth
When it came to American-Italian gangster movies you always look up Al Pacino, Robert De Niro or even Joe Pesci to pull off some authenticity. In Japan there's only one actor right away who is good enough to either take on or be one himself thats Beat or to me and you Takeshi Kitano .
Old Beat's been in a bit of a hiatus recently and now he's finally back with his new movie AUTOREIJI (Outrage). Its business as usual for Beat as he takes on hisYakuza  role as an subordinate role as Otomo  running his crew with jobs that no other crew wants and with the police on his back you cant trust old Beat to get his house in order and maybe sort a few others as well.
The teaser trailer below doesnt  show alot of action but it does suggest they'll be alot in this movie which is due to be out in Japan around June time.

Beautiful trailer for Tom Courtney's AN ARTIFICAL LIGHT

No comments:

sourceQuietEarth
Here's a beautiful little trailer for the indie drama AN ARTIFICAL LIGHT created by Tim Courtney. I dont know much about it apart from the post Quietearth has done on it. From what I can gather its a relationship drama about a man who has recently split up from his girlfriend and he is trying to deal with the situation by taking a tripback down  memory lane.
I do love the grey monetone look and backed with the good music it gives the movie a sweet but tranquil feel to it, if you think about it thats what the main character is trying to get some peace of mind so he can move on. As for any release information I have nothing but I believe the movie is doing the rounds at the Sundance festival in USA.

Saddle Up boys & Girls, here's the trailer for The Last Rites of Ransom Pride

No comments:

source TwitchFilm
So how do you like Westerns? Im not a great fan my dad loved them especially the spaghetti ones, well seems that western movies are coming back into fashion again. Below is the trailer for The Last Rites of Ransom Pride a western that could bring back a little bit of cult status many westerns especially  spagehtti westerns.
The movie does have a stellar line up of known names: Lizzy Caplan,  Kris Kristofferson, Dwight Yoakam, Peter Dinklageand  Jason Priestley. The story is simple one of a woman trying to bring her outlawed lover home for burial but as usual nothing is straight forward. All together this does look like a solid produce movie with some fast and thick action, c'mon you have 2 western music legends in yoakim and kristofferson to give the movie that authentic country feel!

Trailer for Erik Matti's THE ARRIVAL

No comments:

source Twitchfilm
I know this sounds strange, as ive said many times on this blog but more on my other blog I still regard myself as a student Films. After many years of neglect I am finally appreciating the great art, but as I learn its not always what you know about a particular movie or persons sometimes its the poster, the photo that attract me to movies and I can say it was the poster it did it here.
Below is a trailer for Fillipino director Erik Matti's new movie THE ARRIVAL. It s described as a bit of an personal movie for Matti and its all about a withdrawn accountant called Leo simply been one of the good guys for his boss and because of this he's slipped into the background of life. Seen nothing, done nothing even his works security guards mistaken for been a new employee even after 3 years been there!
As I said its a personal movie and Erik Matti's career in movies has been alot like the character Leo he's one of the good guys, following protocols hiking out movies and get his bossess all the money they desire. But now he's decided enough is enough and decided to make a movie the way he wants and THE ARRIVAL is his first movie since he changed.

Trailer is below and in English subtitles and The Arrival is already out in cinemas in Phillippines.

JOLLY FELLOWS in frocks: Trailer for Russian movie Veselchaki

No comments:

source Twitchfilm
They used to say for many years countries like Russia despite saying they where a very "opened" state, peoples from minorities as well religious and sexuality would have never have happened. Roll on to 21 st century the Russian movie industry has now really opened up covering areas never even dreamed been filmed until now; Prostitution, hippies, drug addicts, skinheads and now homosexuality.

Below is the trailer for Veselchaki (Весельчаки) or in English Jolly Fellows. The movie covers the difficulties of been gay in Russia, it is an comedy but does have a big drama element to it as well. It covers the emotions and killling of one of the "girls" (the main characters are all drag queens as well) by homophobes.
Still a long way to go but a big thumbs up from Cinehouse to Russian movie industry its time to move on and enjoy life and of course movies!!!
